The Budget & Grants Division is responsible for assessing the unique budgetary and grant funding needs of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR). The Budget Bureau spearheads the coordination, monitoring, verification, and management of the department's $820 million operating budget and $350 million capital budget, as well as managing diverse supplemental programs.
The Accountant 3 would lead professional and clerical staff within the division and be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of the Capital Budget and Program Management, with a portfolio value of approximately $350 million, including managing capital project budgets, multi-year capital plans, and fleet management strategies. This position develops and maintains long-term capital budgets, monitors expenditures across multiple projects, and ensures alignment with organizational priorities.
Additional responsibilities include leading financial reporting, data analysis, and scenario modeling to support accurate forecasting and effective budget management. The Accountant 3 prepares and presents detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual capital expenditure reports, highlighting variances, trends, and projections for senior management. The incumbent collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely execution of capital projects, providing clear and actionable financial insights to guide decision-making.
This role also supports financial activities and audit documentation to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as collaboration with internal and external auditors to improve financial operations.
