POSITION & PROGRAM: Developmental Specialist, Early Intervention Department
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Developmental Specialist, trained in infant-toddler development and evidence-based family centered practices, provides services to families with children ages birth through two (2) who are developmentally delayed. Implementing a Primary Service Provider approach, the Developmental Specialist works closely with the family and other disciplines on the Early Intervention team to enhance the child’s development and the family’s ability to be confident, competent caregivers. The incumbent must be able to work independently within the family’s natural environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree or graduate level degree in any field from an accredited college or university and at least two years of paid experience working with children, birth through age five with disabilities, developmental delays or diagnosed physical or mental conditions that have a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay.
· Ability to obtain and maintain Ohio Early Intervention Developmental Specialist Credentialing within the probationary period
· May be required to lift, carry and move children with disabilities (weighs up to 50 pounds unassisted) in a safe manner. Must satisfactorily pass post-offer medical physical demands analysis and consistently maintain ability to pass such testing
· Strong oral and written communication
· Competency in Microsoft Office applications
· Ability to abide by MCBDD’s Code of Conduct
· Satisfactory criminal background and Abuser Registry checks
· Satisfactory pre-employment drug test
· Possess valid State of Ohio driver’s license with less than (6) violations on record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree or graduate level degree in education, health, social or behavioral science, social services, human services or related field from an accredited college or university and holds a valid license in counseling, early childhood education for ages three through eight, grades kindergarten through third, or special education; hearing impairment intervention; medicine; nursing; occupational therapy; physical therapy; psychology; psychiatry; social work; speech-language pathology or visual impairment intervention
· Two (2) years paid work experience in early intervention
DUTIES:
· With the family and other members of the Early Intervention team, plans and develops functional outcomes and evidence-based strategies to support families with eligible children in their daily activities. These strategies require the ability to value diversity in terms of cultural, socio-economic and individualized customer service toward the family and child
· Communicate with families regarding their child. These activities require competency in building trust with the child and family, excellent interviewing skills, knowledge of child development and coaching adult learners. Must be able to read and synthesize information from multiple sources. Participates in conferences with family members and service providers and community agencies to discuss progress and planning. The incumbent must be able to initiate necessary change processes to motivate, analyze and summarize team discussions
· Complete eligibility evaluations and assessments for program planning, as well as family directed and functional assessments, completes required forms and documentation. Utilizes team input to maintain ongoing assessment of each child’s progress; prepares strategies for outcomes selected by the family; prepares reports for reviews when requested by the family or for other official purposes
· Performs other related duties as assigned
HOURS: Board Office Hours Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Developmental Specialist Hours will vary between Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 pm for a total of 40 hours based on the needs of families
SALARY: $25.09 - $35.85 an hour based on experience
FLSA: Non-Exempt from overtime
