Job Title: Physical Therapist - Part Time

Department: Artistic

Reports to: Artistic Director & Lead Physical Therapist

Hours: 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM most work weeks—variable during performance season

Salary: $60.00 per hour



SUMMARY

Miami City Ballet, under the new direction of Gonzalo Garcia, is one of the most renowned ballet companies in the United States. Founded in 1985 by Miami philanthropist Toby Lerner Ansin and Founding Artistic Director and ballet legend Edward Villella, MCB is considered a leader in the field – nurturing new choreographic voices, creating innovative collaborations and opening new avenues of inclusivity within classical ballet. Our repertory of more than 100 ballets, including over a dozen world premieres, was built upon the Balanchine repertory, style and technique. It has been expanded to include beloved classical works of importance, as well as exciting new choreography by contemporary and ground-breaking artists.


The Physical Therapist position is a part-time role focused on evaluating and treating primarily MCB dancers, with occasional services for students and staff. This role involves planning and administering physical therapy treatments to prevent injuries, restore function, manage pain, and promote the dancers' overall health and fitness.The Physical Therapist will report directly to Gonzalo Garcia, Artistic Director; and Lina Aguirre, Human Resources Director, regarding matters related to the employment contract.


Specific Responsibilities

·        Provide physical therapy diagnosis through appropriate patient evaluation.

·        To recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations and determine a safe level of participation or referral to a specialist.

·        Develop individualized treatment plans for dancers, including, but not limited to, exercises, stretching, modalities, and hands-on therapy to restore function.

·        Determine if a worker's compensation claim needs to be filed and will communicate with staff regarding this process.

·        Maintain patient records and their confidentiality.

·        Educating patients and staff regarding injuries and their impact on dance rehearsal and performance.

·        Coordinate the plan for a dancer returning to dance with MCB staff and various outside medical professionals.

·        Keep the treatment areas neat and organized.

·        Perform light administrative work.


Hours and Workdays


The hours and workdays during the rehearsal period are typically Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Miami Beach location.


The hours and workdays during the performance season are fluctuating and require weekend coverage at multiple locations in Miami Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County.


Touring weeks - will vary from year to year but not required.


Essential Skills/Qualifications

·        Active Physical Therapy License in the state of Florida.

·        Active Professional Liability Insurance (coverage limits can be specified).

·        At least 3 years of PT experience.

·        Experience working with dancers; previous dance training and background preferred.

·        A skilled manual therapist ideally with additional certifications.

·        Comfortable with administrative technology, scheduling and EMR software, virtual meetings, and

Microsoft Office Suite.


Benefits
