THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 AMMUNITION INSPECTOR (MI USPFO), Position Description Number NGD2280000 and is part of the MI USPFO, Michigan Army National Guard.

MILITARY GRADE: E1-WO1
Selectee(s) must be within the military grade(s) listed in this job announcement prior to the effective date of placement into the technician position to ensure to avoid grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO). Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates a vast knowledge necessary to recommend serviceability and detect hazardous or nonstandard conditions of ammunition and explosive items by visual examination or by use of test equipment. Technical knowledge of a variety of ammunition. May require knowledge of detonation and burning methods and procedures for the destruction of ammunition and explosives. Must be able to read, understand and research technical drawings, specifications, data sheets, serviceability standards, and technical manuals and references for ammunition and explosive items. Must have knowledge of regulations and standards for safety in receiving, shipping, storing, and handling of ammunition and explosives. Knowledge of inspection criteria related to commercial and military vehicles for unsafe mechanical conditions prior to loading with ammunition and explosives. Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations to ensure the Ammunition Supply Point has no infractions. Ability to recognize the various munitions and explosives to apply the proper procedure for inspecting. May require the ability to respond to unforeseen or emergency situations and be able to make immediate responses to emergency situations, determine the correct course of action to mitigate the problem. Ability to operate motor vehicles and forklifts for loading/unloading, transportation, and storage of Ammunition and Explosive materials.

Responsibilities:

***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP***

This position is located in the United States Property & Fiscal Office (USPFO) Supply & Services Division, Ammunition Supply Point (ASP). The primary purpose of this position is to perform the handling, storage, examining, transporting, and identifying of ammunition and explosives to detect defects, serviceability, deterioration, and compliance with all ammunition and explosives regulations, acceptable standards, specifications, or contractual requirements, as well as policy and procedures.

Performs Ammunition Inspections pertaining to the receipt, classification, storage, issue and shipment of ammunition items. May receive shipments of all types of ammunition and verify DA form 1348 against Depot surveillance Records for correct NSN and Condition Code.

Conducts inspection of ammunition being turned-in to determine suitability for further training needs. Takes appropriate steps in this disposition of CCH material.

Prepares items for shipment to other depots and/or installations. Using the correct DOT regulations and packing requirements, makes sure all shipments meet DOT requirements.

Verification Inspection. Performs a variety of routine and special inspections of conventional ammunition. Performs quality monitoring of maintenance operations, area inspections magazine storage inspections and basic load inspections.

Performs periodic, storage and special inspections and tests to determine quality safety and condition of a wide variety of ammunition, subcomponents, and materials used in the maintenance, modification and manufacture of ammunition items. Inspects such items as small arms ammunition, artillery and mortar ammunition, rockets, missiles, mines, grenades, bulk high explosives, propellants and propelling charges, etc.

Inspects incoming material from other installations or venders for damage in transit, safety, serviceability, and compliance with applicable references, identifies items using the appropriate references, documents item markings and through personal contacts with project engineers. Exercises caution in handling of the material due to the unknown condition stability of the material.

Demilitarization Inspections. Monitors ammunition and explosive related operations at firing sites and demilitarization areas for adherence to regulations and procedures concerning explosives, compatibility, quantity distance, explosive and personnel limits, transportation and utilization of protective equipment.

Transportation Related Inspections. Inspects empty military vans and trucks to insure that carriers meet standards for transporting ammunition, explosives, and other hazardous materials.

Inspects storage facilities for proper storage, packaging, warehousing, structural defects, cleanliness, ammunition compatibility and compliance with Quantity-Distance requirements or applicable explosive safety waivers.

Propellant Inspections. Inspects propelling charge containers and bulk propellants in storage. Inspects condition of powder bags for service-ability, safety, and markings.
