School Custodian and Cafeteria Food Service Worker

Position Type: Full-time, 12-month, Non-exempt

Reports To: Facilities Manager and Cafeteria Manager

Job Summary: The School Custodian and Cafeteria Food Service Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe school environment while also assisting in the preparation and service of meals in the school cafeteria. This dual-role position ensures that the school facilities are well-maintained and that students receive nutritious meals in a clean and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Custodian Duties:

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal.
• Maintain and restock cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down for school events and activities.

Cafeteria Food Service Duties:

• Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals according to established recipes and guidelines.
• Serve food to students and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
• Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
• Restock food and supplies as needed.
• Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Assist with inventory management and ordering of food and supplies.

General Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with all school policies and procedures.
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude while interacting with students, staff, and visitors.
• Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a smooth operation of school facilities and cafeteria services.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager and Cafeteria Manager.

Work Schedule:

• Full-time, 12-month position based on the school calendar.
• No work during Thanksgiving week, two weeks during Christmas, Spring Break, and the week of the 4th of July.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in custodial work and/or food service preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment.
• Basic cooking skills and knowledge of food safety regulations.
• Safe-Serve Certified of willing to complete
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and perform physical tasks.
