Position Details: Medical Assistant - Pediatrics Clinic Mercy Clinic Pediatrics - Sunset Hills Office 1077 Sunset Hills Office Drive, Suite 110, Sunset Hills, MO Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week Position Summary Mercy Clinic Pediatrics at the Sunset Hills Office is seeking a compassionate, patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our growing team. This busy pediatric practice provides comprehensive primary care services for infants, children, and adolescents, while also supporting a specialized Weight and Wellness Clinic. Due to consistently high patient volumes and the complexity of services offered, this role is essential in ensuring efficient patient flow, exceptional patient experiences, and high-quality clinical care. The Medical Assistant works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, patients, and families to deliver safe, timely, and family-centered care in a fast-paced outpatient setting. Position Justification This practice maintains a consistently high patient volume and offers both comprehensive pediatric primary care and specialized Weight and Wellness services. The diverse patient population and increased clinical demands require dedicated Medical Assistant support to: Ensure timely rooming and patient throughput. Assist providers with a wide variety of pediatric clinical needs. Support care coordination, referrals, and follow-up appointments. Reinforce patient and family education. Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. Enhance provider efficiency and improve access to care for the community. Essential Responsibilities Greet patients and families, escort patients to exam rooms, and obtain vital signs. Complete Advanced Standard Rooming for primary care visits. Collect and update patient medical histories, including medications, allergies, and immunization information. Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during exams and procedures. Perform basic diagnostic testing, including urine dipsticks, blood glucose testing, EKGs, and other approved procedures based on competency. Accurately document patient information and clinical activities within the electronic health record (EHR). Reinforce patient and family education as directed by providers or nursing staff. Support pediatric wellness visits, sick visits, and Weight and Wellness Clinic appointments. Maintain exam room cleanliness, organization, and adequate supply levels. Assist with scheduling diagnostic testing, specialist referrals, and follow-up appointments. Perform front office responsibilities including answering telephones, patient check-in/check-out, processing faxes, and managing scanned documents. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, and ongoing education. Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements. Assist with vaccine workflows and other clinical tasks in accordance with office policies and state regulations. Perform additional duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. New hire must successfully complete Mercy MA Clinic Academy training. Certifications BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred. Preferred Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Experience One year of experience in an outpatient, ambulatory, pediatric, or primary care setting preferred. Certifications BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and families. Ability to provide compassionate, family-centered care. Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Ability to adapt and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Knowledge of common outpatient clinical procedures and equipment. Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and continuous professional development. Demonstrates awareness and understanding of diverse patient populations and family needs. Work Environment High-volume outpatient pediatric clinic with frequent patient and family interaction. Collaborative team environment supporting primary care and Weight and Wellness services. Requires regular use of clinical equipment and technology. Potential exposure to infectious materials; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided. Physical Requirements Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during each shift. Ability to bend, kneel, twist, squat, reach, and grip while performing patient care activities. Transforming the Health of Our Communities Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest.
