Position Summary
MHIC is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and equity-focused leader to serve as Deputy Director – Equity. This senior-level position is responsible for managing MHIC’s equity investment platform, which includes Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), State LIHTC (SLIHTC), and the Healthy Neighborhoods Equity Fund (HNEF). The Deputy Director oversees originations, underwriting, and closing of equity transactions and plays a key role in shaping strategy, managing a high-performing team, and driving business development that centers racial equity and community impact.

Key Responsibilities
Equity Investment Management
- Lead the execution of MHIC’s equity investment strategy in alignment with annual goals and mission objectives.
- Lead or conduct LIHTC and related equity transaction modeling, underwriting, negotiation of investment terms, and internal investment approvals.
- Oversee and ensure quality control of investment memoranda, pricing analyses, financial modeling, and due diligence.
- Supervise and develop equity staff, ensuring strong technical capacity and commitment to MHIC’s values.
Business Development & Partnerships
- Cultivate and manage relationships with affordable housing developers, community-based organizations, funders, and public sector partners.
- Proactively market MHIC’s equity products to generate new investment opportunities and capital partnerships.
- Provide technical assistance and support to emerging and diverse developers.
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with senior leadership across Capital Development, Asset Management, and Finance to ensure smooth investment execution and lifecycle management.
- Contribute to new product development and innovative financing structures that advance equitable and inclusive development.
- Support internal initiatives to track impact, improve systems, and strengthen team culture.
External Engagement
- Represent MHIC at industry conferences, investor meetings, and public forums.
- Contribute to public policy advocacy aligned with MHIC’s mission.
- Build MHIC’s visibility as a thought leader in equitable community investing.

Qualifications
Required:
- 10 years of progressively responsible experience in affordable housing, community development finance, or real estate investment.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in underwriting LIHTC or similar equity investments; familiarity with public and private affordable housing finance tools.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or related field.
Preferred:
- Experience working with community-based organizations and emerging and diverse developers.
- Strong lending experience is plus.
- Familiarity with CDFIs, mission-driven capital, or ESG/impact investing.
- Demonstrated commitment to racial and economic equity.
- Master’s degree preferred.

Compensation Range
$162,000-$200,000. Final compensation will be based on skills and experience.
