What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician position at MHE Engineering, D.P.C.?
MHE has an immediate opening for a GIS Technician to expand the company’s existing GIS capabilities. The primary role of the GIS Technician will be stormwater and utility infrastructure field data collection, as well as collaborative mapping using ArcGIS software. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys a balance of high-precision field work and technical office analysis. An interest or background in Environmental Science is a plus.
Responsibilities
· Assist with field data collection using ArcGIS mobile solutions (Field Maps, Survey123) and ArcGIS Online
· Collect infrastructure data, including, but not limited to, stormwater (e.g., catch basins, outfalls, culverts, etc.), drinking water distribution (e.g., water source, hydrants, pump stations, mains, etc.) and wastewater conveyance (e.g., mains, pump stations, treatment facilities, etc.)
· Assist with verifying municipal compliance with NYS MS4 stormwater regulations by maintaining detailed infrastructure inventories
· Contribute to technical reports and plans, including research, statistical analysis, formatting, writing, and editing
· Produce high-quality maps, graphs, and charts derived from field data, in-house analyses, and public datasets
· Ensure integrity and organization of geodatabases for long-term municipal asset management
· Convert approved subdivisions and site plans into digital GIS features
Required Skills
· Bachelor's degree in GIS/Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field; OR
· Associate’s degree and 4 years of relevant GIS experience
· Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS desktop and mobile solutions
o Experience with high-accuracy GPS/GNSS hardware and software a plus
· Ability to translate complex data into easy-to-interpret, professional maps
· Proven time-management skills with the ability to manage data across multiple projects
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to write clearly for technical reports and professional correspondence
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
