MHA (Mental Health Association)
Springfield, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 3/23/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/23/2026
Are you passionate about helping young adults build confidence, independence, and essential life skills that will serve them for a lifetime?

We're looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and inspiring Life Coach to join our supportive and mission-driven team. In this role, you will work directly with young adults who are striving to live independently in the community. You will provide hands-on guidance, emotional support, and practical skill-building to help individuals overcome obstacles and build fulfilling, self-directed lives.

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a real and lasting impact—by helping others take meaningful steps toward independence, self-reliance, and community connection. Whether you're teaching basic life skills, navigating resources, or helping someone find their voice, your work will matter every single day.

Open Shifts:

  • Tuesday through Saturday 12pm-8pm (40h)
  • Sunday through Thursday 12pm-8am (40h)

Position's Essential Functions

Life Skills Coaching & Mentoring

  • Help young adults learn and apply independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene, transportation, and time management.
  • Model healthy habits and behaviors, including wellness practices, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy.
  • Facilitate one-on-one and group sessions to teach life skills, promote personal growth, and encourage peer support.

Advocacy & Support

  • Serve as a trusted advocate for the individuals you support—helping them navigate challenges, access services, and build confidence.
  • Assist in preparing for and participating in formal and informal meetings such as treatment planning, job interviews, and social services.
  • Support individuals through key transitions, including program entry, graduation, and post-program steps.

Community Engagement

  • Connect individuals to community resources, events, and peer-run groups that align with their goals and interests.
  • Plan and coordinate activities that foster social interaction, skill development, and a sense of belonging within the broader community.

Documentation & Coordination

  • Maintain accurate and timely records including progress notes, data entry, and any required reporting per agency and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate with vocational, educational, and clinical staff to provide holistic support.
  • Provide transportation when needed to support community involvement, appointments, or program participation

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance (travel within the community is part of the role).
  • A positive, outgoing personality with the ability to build trusting relationships.
  • The ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a respectful, collaborative approach.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm in stressful or crisis situations.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a desire to support people from all backgrounds.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and MAP (or willingness to obtain) required

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience working with young adults or in a mentoring, peer support, or advocacy role.
  • Experience leading life skills groups or educational workshops.
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (403B, IRA)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Long Term Disability
