What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transformer Application Engineer - Data Center position at MGM Transformers?
About the Role: We are seeking a technical leader to help support the specification, design, quotation and delivery of medium voltage transformers to mission critical customers. You will collaborate closely with sales, engineering, manufacturing, and customers to ensure our solutions optimally meet the customers’ needs and are efficient, safe, and scalable. We are rapidly growing and this is a high-impact opportunity to help shape the application engineering role and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Expertise: Develop technical solutions tailored to data center requirements, leveraging expertise in electrical single-line diagrams and transformer applications. Mentor sales engineers and account managers on the technical capabilities of MGM’s product line.
- Customer Engagement: Serve as technical liaison, interpreting and translating customer requirements into technical specs, and joining customer calls to help discuss CDE options and advise them on design tradeoffs. Ensure completeness and competitiveness of our proposals.
- Business Development and Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support sales and business development teams with technical input, including proposals, customer consultations, and potential whitepapers. Collaborate with consulting engineers, EPCs, end users and contractors to influence specification of MGM products in data center projects.
- Product Roadmap: Partner with engineering on product management and provide feedback into the product roadmap (e.g., optimizing VFI solution); propose enhancements based on observed customer needs, competitive benchmarks and market trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in mission critical infrastructure.
- Strong technical knowledge of transformers; ability to interpret and potentially write specifications.
- Excellent customer relations and communication skills, able to present technical materials to customers and internally.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in high-paced environments.
- Self-motivated and team-oriented.
- Ability to travel (~20-30%) as needed for customer sites, Texas plant visits, conferences, etc.
Specialized Skills:
- Robust knowledge of electrical single-line diagrams, and experience with transformers.
- Substantial experience working directly with data center customers to create optimized solutions.
