PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Emergency Response Team Manager will have primary oversight for the Emergency Response Team Officers (ERTO) program.
The Emergency Response Team Manager will be responsible for selection and training (initial and ongoing) of MGM Resorts International Emergency Response Team Officers. This will include the development and continued maintenance of the requisite training and qualification standards ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal law, while adhering to the MGMRI policies and procedures.
The Emergency Response Team Manager will provide direct oversight of scheduling and day to day operation of each officer under their purview. This will include direct coordination with each property’s Security Management team to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained in accordance with company and program objectives.
All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts International policies, practices, and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with the ERT Senior Managers and Executive Director in the development and management of ERTO services strategies.
- Provide initial and continuing education training in topics related but not limited to: Force Protection, Anti- Terrorism, Use of Force, Firearms Training and Defensive Tactics.
- Communicate with Property Security Management regarding the daily operations of the Emergency Response Team Officers.
- Lead investigative efforts related to security matters.
- Drive and operate company vehicles, trucks, and motorized carts to respond to incidents on and off properties.
- Handle administrative issues including scheduling, attendance, and training. Maintain up to date records on training, licenses, and permit requirements.
- Ensure the Company has a consistent approach utilizing ‘best security practices’ for security related incidents and plan how security matters and emergency situations will be handled.
- Provide oversight and direction of the Emergency Response Team Officers with mentorship, problem resolution, coaching, and create a culture enabling development of high-performing individuals. Instill importance of development plans and develop succession plans for future team growth.
- Recruit, evaluate and select Emergency Response Team Officers
- Inspect and maintain equipment and supplies to include uniform, firearms, ammunition, and related equipment. Review the appearance of the Emergency Response Team Officers to ensure they meet the company’s appearance standards.
- Direct and manage the team to respond to emergency situations including in-progress acts of violence, crisis, weapons incidents, explosive incidents, natural disasters, and a wide range of issues posing a hazard to lives and/or property using the appropriate escalation of force up to and including armed response by following established protocol. Direct and manage covert surveillance operations.
- ERT Managers may be called into duty as needed, therefore candidates are required to maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness, knowledge of crisis response and tactical maneuvers, and firearms proficiency, and should attend all mandatory legal, tactical, defensive tactics, first aid, CPR, firearms, and other training as a condition of continued employment.
SUPERVISION:
- Emergency Response Team Officers
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or graduation from a United States accredited law enforcement academy or comparable course of instruction.
- Minimum of five (5) years of creditable experience gained in law enforcement work; through service as a federal, state, or local law enforcement officer; or in other work such as a United States accredited Special Police Officer (SPO) or MGMRI Emergency Response Team Officer.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Candidates will be required to complete Maryland Special Police Officer (SPO) training course upon hire and must maintain certification
- Proof of eligibility to work in the US.
- Ability to obtain Gaming Registration.
- Credible Firearms Instructor Certification.
- Maryland CCW or HR218.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED Certification.
- Successful completion of ERT Officer training course, psychological evaluation, background check, and drug screen.
- Valid Maryland Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication and analytical skills including the ability to evaluate, compile, coordinate, and disseminate information, make sound judgments, and respond accurately and quickly to changing situations, strong leadership, and management background.
- Successfully attend and pass CPR/AED response simulation as a condition of employment
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and quality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power Point, and other relevant software.
- Knowledge of applicable and relevant laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, related to security operation.
- Strong critical thinking skills to include deductive and inductive reasoning.
- Ability to evaluate and solve complex problems.

- Ability to manage, direct and execute evacuation procedures to aid guests and employees during an emergency.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment; Ability to perform additional specialized skill/duties may be required (i.e., Firearms/Tactical/Defensive Tactics/Active Shooter Instructor, Executive Protection/VIP/Special Assignment escorts, etc.).
- This position requires in certain circumstances moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature as well as frequent involvement in stressful situations.
