Position Summary

The Technical Director will serve as a key fire alarm subject matter expert for MGI, supporting our project management, estimating, and field teams.This is a hands-on technical leadership position focused on helping our teams successfully plan, design, install, troubleshoot, test, commission, and close out commercial fire alarm projects.The ideal candidate is a NICET Level III or IV fire alarm professional with strong design and field knowledge who enjoys solving technical challenges, supporting project teams, and developing others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Expert: Serve as the fire alarm subject matter expert for project management, estimating, and field teams.
  • Engineering Guidance: Provide technical direction for fire alarm layout, design, installation, programming, and testing.
  • Quality Assurance: Review drawings, material lists, estimates, submittals, and closeout documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure designs and installations comply with NFPA 72, NFPA 70/NEC Article 760, Division 28 requirements, and project specifications.
  • Project Support: Facilitate smooth project handoffs and assist with RFIs, change requests, design questions, and technical clarifications.
  • Field Support: Assist with complex troubleshooting, perform quality reviews, and develop field punch lists.
  • Commissioning & Closeout: Support final testing, system demonstrations, owner training, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Risk & Continuous Improvement: Partner with preconstruction and project teams to identify technical risks and incorporate lessons learned into future projects.
  • Training: Develop and deliver technical training for field personnel and project managers.
  • Travel: Visit project sites as needed to support execution, quality control, training, and commissioning.

Required Qualifications

  • NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fire alarm system layout and/or design.
  • Strong knowledge of Division 28 fire alarm specifications and project criteria.
  • Working knowledge of commercial fire alarm programming, layout, design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 72 and NFPA 70/NEC Article 760.
  • Experience supporting fire alarm projects from preconstruction through final commissioning and closeout.
  • Experience working with AHJs, engineers, commissioning teams, owners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, and technical project documentation.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET Level IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Experience working with multiple fire alarm manufacturers and platforms.
  • Healthcare fire alarm experience, including hospitals, medical centers, outpatient facilities, or VA projects.
  • Experience with estimating and project leadership.
  • Experience developing or delivering technical training.
