MGE in a Natural Resource Management firm which has strong ties to the utility industry. We are looking for an Archaeologist who can perform surveys, monitor, and prepare associated reports. Ideal candidates would qualify under SHPO standards for Field Director approval by Federal agencies. This position is a full time position. Successful candidates must be willing to work as needed in other areas of natural resource management when cultural resource work is unavailable. GIS Experience is highly desired.


Archaeologist


Knowledge of: Principles and practices of archaeological resource management and preservation; techniques for the preservation of archaeological collections; the major aspects of American archaeological field methods; laboratory and museum techniques, procedures, and operations; Indians of Western North America; geology; paleontology; ecology; comparative osteology; California history; basic techniques of surveying; archaeological research methods; literature and publications dealing with archaeological and ethnographical methods and techniques; private and public organizations concerned with anthropological research in California.


Ability to: Prepare accurate drawings and take photographs of archaeological remains, artifacts, and related materials for use in published reports; read and prepare maps; perform archaeological field work; coordinate the efforts of small work teams; identify and record pertinent data revealed during excavations; evaluate environmental impacts upon various archaeological resources and develop and recommend effective mitigation procedures; speak and write effectively; keep necessary records and prepare reports; analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Must be able to evaluate complex archaeological and ethnographic studies; develop innovative resource management programs for the protection, restoration and perpetuation of cultural resources; coordinate and lead the work of others; provide instruction in archaeological excavation techniques; prepare clear, complete and technically accurate reports; plan, organize, and lead archaeological field projects.


Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Driver License and Clean driving record


Pre-employment drug screen and background check required


Ability to read and follow maps


Excellent written and oral communication


Excellent attention to data requirements and technical detail


Proficiency with electronic devices and systems, such as mobile devices, GIS programs, MS Excel/Word


Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather


Willingness to travel during the week.


Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with major course work in archaeology or anthropology. (Graduate degree preferred)


Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in research, writing, or project supervision in archaeological investigation or cultural resource management and protection programs, two years of which shall have been working at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a field director.
