What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Designer position at MFUSED?
Company Overview
MFUSED is a minority-owned cannabis company headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, and proudly founded in Seattle, Washington. We are more than a cannabis company — we are innovators and creators shaping how cannabis is experienced. As Washington’s largest processor and one of Arizona’s fastest-growing brands, we combine artistic vision with scientific precision to deliver products that are bold, trustworthy, and unforgettable.
Design at MFUSED isn’t just about packaging — it’s about creating visual experiences that connect with people. From the details of a label to the feel of a finished package, every choice reflects our brand identity and commitment to quality. Joining MFUSED means joining a culture where creativity thrives, new ideas are encouraged, and every team member helps define the visual future of cannabis.
The Role
As a Production Designer, you are the link between big creative concepts and the finished product in a customer’s hand. You’ll design, refine, and deliver packaging, labeling, and promotional assets that bring our brand identity to life while ensuring every detail meets compliance and production standards.
This role is perfect for someone who loves taking bold ideas from concept to reality — a designer who enjoys experimenting with layouts, colors, and typography while also mastering the precision of dielines and production-ready files. You’ll work closely with Marketing, Product, Compliance, Quality, and Operations, ensuring that every design is not only visually striking but also accurate, compliant, and ready for market.
What You’ll Do
- Design packaging, labeling, point-of-sale materials, and promotional assets for cannabis products including flower, vapes, edibles, and accessories.
- Prototype packaging concepts to bring ideas to life and visualize real-world applications.
- Ensure all designs comply with state and federal cannabis regulations, including warnings, disclosures, and ingredient formatting.
- Prepare and deliver production-ready files for print and packaging manufacturers, including dielines, layers, and prepress requirements.
- Collaborate with external vendors and printers to oversee production quality, color accuracy, and finishing.
- Champion sustainable and innovative packaging approaches that keep MFUSED ahead of industry trends.
- Maintain asset libraries, brand guidelines, and documentation to ensure consistency across all product lines and marketing channels.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, balancing creative exploration with strict deadlines.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align design execution with brand goals and product launch timelines.
- Continuously research packaging and design trends to keep MFUSED’s products competitive and inspiring.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Packaging Design, or related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- 3 years of experience in packaging or production design, ideally within consumer goods, food/beverage, or cannabis.
- A portfolio that demonstrates both creative excellence and production-ready execution.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
- Knowledge of print production processes, dielines, substrates, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to turn compliance constraints into opportunities for creativity.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and maintain rigorous attention to detail.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to present design concepts and respond to feedback with agility.
- Experience with sustainable or eco-friendly packaging solutions is a plus.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must pass state-required background checks and maintain any certifications or licenses required by the state
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- This role is onsite in Scottsdale, Arizona, with regular interaction across design, lab, and production spaces.
- Work involves both digital design and hands-on evaluation of print proofs, mockups, and packaging materials.
- Requires fine motor skills and strong attention to detail for layout, trimming, and prototype reviews.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. when handling packaging materials or proof shipments.
- Ability to spend extended periods at a workstation focusing on detailed visual work.
- Occasional travel may be required to vendors, trade shows, or production facilities.
