We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented estimator with 2 years of commercial construction experience, ideally with exposure to public works projects.This role supports preconstruction and bidding efforts, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor coordination, bid analysis, and budget development. The Estimator will work closely with Project Managers, field teams, subcontractors, potential clients, and active clients to develop accurate, competitive estimates and ensure a smooth transition from bid to build.PLEASE NOTE: This position is onsite in San Jose, CA. No relocation assistance is being offered.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPrepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and public works construction projectsPerform quantity takeoffs and pricing based on construction drawings and specificationsRead, interpret, and analyze architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and specialty trade drawingsAttend job walks, bid walks, pre-bid meetings, and client meetings as requiredInterface professionally with potential clients and active clients, representing MFS during the preconstruction and bidding processBuild and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliersSolicit, review, and level subcontractor bids to ensure scope coverage and pricing accuracyIdentify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential risk items in subcontractor proposalsAssist in developing project budgets, bid summaries, and value-engineering optionsEnter and manage estimate data using Procore, BuildingConnected, and internal systemsSupport public works bidding requirements, including scope compliance and bid deadlinesCollaborate with Project Managers to ensure smooth transition from estimating to project executionMaintain organized records of bids, estimates, subcontractor contacts, and historical cost dataParticipate in post-bid reviews and client feedback discussionsCommunicate clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders regarding assumptions, risks, and budget impactsREQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS2 years of experience in commercial construction estimating (mid-level role)Experience with public works and commercial construction projects strongly preferredStrong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with:Potential clientsActive clientsSubcontractors and vendorsInternal project teamsAbility to read and understand construction drawings and specificationsExperience attending job walks and managing subcontractor outreachStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneouslyProficiency or working knowledge of:BuildingConnectedProcoreMicrosoft Office Suite (Excel required)Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or institutional projects is a plusSelf-starter with sound judgment and the ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team
