Yard Assistant / Backup Crew Driver

Job Summary

We are a growing construction company that builds post-frame (pole) buildings which are constructed by local Amish crews. We are seeking an individual to become part of our team as a Yard Assistant / Backup Crew Driver.

This is a shop/yard position where the employee picks materials for job orders and loads/unloads trailers. Some of the work is inside warehouses, but a good portion of the day is spent outside in all weather conditions. There are other shop and grounds related tasks that are shared among the team such as mowing, snow removal, warehouse organization and some basic mechanical maintenance items. Normal hours are Mon. - Fri., 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. The ideal candidate will enjoy doing different things from day to day and feel comfortable filling in where needed to get the job done.

This position is also the backup driver for our Amish crew drivers, covering for planned and unplanned days off. The hours for this can vary, but generally they are 10-12 hour days with crew pickups starting around 5:00 am.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working outside, is self-motivated, hardworking, and dependable. Starting pay range is $17.00 to $20.00 per hour with time-and-a-half overtime pay for time worked over 40 hours per week. The starting pay rate will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Forklift operation loading & unloading trailers.
• Picking lumber and building materials from yard and warehouse.
• Checking material pick lists to ensure accuracy.

Preferred Skills

• Sit-down forklift experience.
• Experience with hand tools, circular saws, etc.
• Experience with in-lot moving of semis and trailers (non-CDL).
• Experience with warehouse, order-picking, shipping & receiving.
• Experience operating skid steers.

Minimum Requirements

• Must pass a pre-employment DOT physical exam.
• Must have a clean driving record (Motor Vehicle Report will be checked).
• Must be at least 25 years old due to insurance requirements.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Must be able to bend, lift, kneel, reach, twist, climb, push, and pull.
