Director of Curriculum and Assessment Implementation

 

Primary Purpose

Coordinate and support the implementation of district curriculum, assessment, instructional coaching, PLC, and data-driven instructional routines to strengthen classroom practice and improve student outcomes across campuses. This position serves as a key implementation partner to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning by helping campuses translate district instructional priorities into consistent planning, assessment, coaching, and instructional response processes.

This position supports the implementation of academic MTSS through curriculum alignment, assessment analysis, PLC routines, progress monitoring, and instructional coaching; however, districtwide MTSS ownership and executive direction remain with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Master's degree from an accredited university required
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate required
  • Texas principal or other appropriate administrator certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and instructional coaching
  • Knowledge of high-quality instructional materials, standards alignment, lesson internalization, and research-based instructional practices
  • Knowledge of PLC structures, data-driven instruction, progress monitoring, and academic intervention practices
  • Ability to interpret student achievement data, identify implementation trends, and recommend instructional next steps
  • Ability to support campus leaders, instructional coaches, and teacher teams with implementation of curriculum, assessment, PLC, and coaching routines
  • Ability to design and facilitate effective professional learning for adult learners
  • Ability to develop tools, calendars, protocols, and processes that support consistent implementation across campuses
  • Ability to build trust and communicate clearly with district leaders, principals, instructional coaches, teachers, and support staff
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience required
  • Previous instructional coaching, curriculum leadership, campus leadership, or district instructional leadership experience required
  • Experience supporting both elementary and secondary grade bands preferred
  • Experience with curriculum implementation, assessment systems, PLC facilitation, instructional coaching, data analysis, and academic intervention support preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Curriculum and Instructional Implementation

  1. Coordinate implementation of district curriculum, instructional materials, pacing guidance, assessment expectations, PLC structures, and instructional priorities under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning.
  2. Support campuses in implementing strong Tier 1 instruction aligned to district expectations, state standards, student needs, and adopted instructional resources.
  3. Assist campus leaders, instructional coaches, and teacher teams with curriculum internalization, lesson planning, standards alignment, instructional planning, student work analysis, and evidence-based instructional adjustments.
  4. Monitor curriculum pacing, instructional implementation, and assessment alignment across campuses to identify patterns, gaps, and needed support.
  5. Develop and maintain district tools, protocols, calendars, and processes that support consistent implementation of curriculum and instructional expectations.
  6. Provide feedback and implementation support to instructional coaches and teacher teams in alignment with district instructional priorities.

Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction

  1. Coordinate implementation of district assessment systems, including common assessments, benchmarks, screeners, interim assessments, and other district-approved assessment tools.
  2. Support development and use of assessment calendars, data-analysis protocols, PLC agendas, and instructional response processes.
  3. Analyze district, campus, grade-level, teacher-team, and student performance data to identify strengths, gaps, trends, and priority areas for instructional support.
  4. Support principals, instructional coaches, and teacher teams in using assessment data, classroom evidence, and progress-monitoring information to adjust instruction.
  5. Collaborate with campus and district leaders to ensure assessment results inform PLC planning, instructional coaching, intervention support, and student progress monitoring.
  6. Support data-driven PLCs by developing and facilitating protocols for unpacking standards, analyzing student work, identifying misconceptions, grouping students, and determining next instructional steps.

Instructional Coaching and Campus Implementation Support

  1. Coordinate instructional coaching routines to ensure coaching cycles are aligned to district instructional priorities, campus needs, and teacher development goals.
  2. Provide guidance, calibration, and implementation support to instructional coaches in the areas of curriculum implementation, classroom observation, feedback, lesson planning, data analysis, and teacher support.
  3. Partner with campus leaders and instructional coaches to identify instructional trends, prioritize teacher support, and monitor implementation of agreed-upon next steps.
  4. Model effective coaching, facilitation, data analysis, and instructional planning practices for coaches, teacher leaders, and campus teams.
  5. Support professional learning aligned to district curriculum, assessment, PLC, coaching, and instructional implementation priorities.
  6. Provide implementation evidence, data summaries, and recommended next steps to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning to support district monitoring and decision-making.

Academic MTSS Implementation Support

  1. Support academic MTSS implementation by helping campuses connect curriculum, assessment, PLCs, progress monitoring, and instructional coaching to Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instructional responses.
  2. Assist campuses in using assessment and progress-monitoring data to identify students needing additional support, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and adjust instructional responses.
  3. Support the development and use of tools and processes that help campuses document, monitor, and refine academic supports within the district MTSS framework.
  4. Collaborate with principals, instructional coaches, counselors, emergent bilingual staff, special education staff, and other district leaders to support alignment between instructional planning, intervention, and student support.

Leadership, Communication, and Collaboration

  1. Serve as a key implementation partner to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning in supporting curriculum, assessment, PLC, coaching, and instructional response systems.
  2. Collaborate regularly with principals, instructional coaches, testing staff, counselors, emergent bilingual staff, special education staff, CTE, and district leadership to align implementation efforts and remove barriers to campus follow-through.
  3. Communicate implementation expectations, timelines, data trends, and next steps clearly to campus and district stakeholders.
  4. Build the capacity of instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and PLC teams through coaching, modeling, feedback, professional learning, and collaborative problem-solving.
  5. Support district improvement planning by providing implementation evidence, data analysis, and recommendations related to curriculum, assessment, PLCs, coaching, and academic intervention support.
  6. Maintain a service-oriented, solution-focused approach while supporting campuses through instructional improvement work.

Policy, Reports, and Compliance

  1. Compile, maintain, and submit required reports, records, calendars, documentation, and implementation evidence related to assigned responsibilities.
  2. Comply with federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, local board policy, and district procedures.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate assigned staff as designated by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, which may include instructional coaches, assessment personnel, intervention personnel, and/or other academic support staff.

Provide functional implementation support to campus instructional leaders, instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and PLC teams in coordination with campus principals.

This position does not supervise principals.
