MetroWest Mediation Services is a non‐profit organization that facilitates peaceful resolution of disputes within all communities we serve, and through the courts, by supporting people to work together to resolve conflict. Serving the MetroWest community and the Trial Courts, we mediate over 1000 cases per year in areas such as eviction, family/divorce, business disputes, re-entry, and youth conflict. Due to our work, Framingham District Court has one of the lowest rate of eviction orders in the state. We're looking for someone to maintain this high level of performance and contribute to the excellent reputation we've built for our Housing Mediation program.
Housing Mediation Specialist
This is an ideal position for someone who thrives on helping others, is outgoing and action-oriented, is detailed oriented and responsive, maintains a positive attitude and is committed to the use of conflict resolution to benefit the community.
Main Job Responsibilities:
Work with Landlords and Tenants to Prevent Eviction
- Conduct intakes and support tenants with applying for rental assistance or connecting them with other resources.
- Communicate with landlords to facilitate the resolution of the eviction in a satisfactory manner to both sides.
- Serve as an empathetic listener to both landlords and tenants to understand their interests and support them in meeting their goals.
- Engage in problem solving and critical thinking to address challenging cases
- As appropriate, mediate agreements between landlords and tenants
- Attend meetings with our partner agencies.
- Represent the agency at eviction-related court sessions.
Engage in Community Outreach:
- Conduct outreach in the MetroWest community
- Hold “office hours” at partner sites
- Make connections and raise awareness of our services.
This job requires the following:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
- Very motivated, self-starter
- Perseverance and excellent case management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively before a variety of audiences
- Ability to write in a clear and professional manner
- Excellent time management and responsiveness
- Ability to commute to our office in Natick and sites across the MetroWest
The following skills and experience are preferred but not required:
- Fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish
- Interpreter Training
- Experience in conflict resolution, such as mediation training
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
