Overview

MetroSquash was founded in 2005 as an out-of-school time program for Chicago Public School students. The first MetroSquash class consisted of 10 students in fifth grade, and utilized squash courts and classroom space at the University of Chicago. Each year, a grade level was added to realize a pathway of service from 5th grade through post-secondary completion. In 2015, the organization successfully raised over $8M to construct a permanent home - the Hussain MetroSquash Center in Woodlawn. MetroSquash now has 20 full time staff serving over 400 students and their families each year. In 2018, MetroSquash opened its first satellite location in Evanston to serve students just north of Chicago. MetroSquash Evanston currently serves 50 6th-12th graders and utilizes academic and court space at the McGaw YMCA. The program is now exploring plans to expand to the West Side of Chicago


The High School Coordinator reports to the Program Director and plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing engaging, rigorous, and relationship-based out-of-school time academic programming for high school students.


This role is critical to driving student recruitmentattendance and retention, while also supporting academic growth, identity, development and long-term engagement in the MetroSquash program.

In collaboration with the Program Team consisting of Squash & Fitness, Social Work & Supportive services, and College & Careers, the High School Coordinator plays a leading role in providing quality out-of-school-time programming for all high school students, while helping to ensure the academic progress and success of 9th and 10th grade students.


Key Responsibilities​:


Academics 

  • Deliver high-quality, grade-specific academic programming (ELA and Math enrichment, study skills, project-based learning and cultural exploration).
  • Incorporate frequent formative and summative assessment (exit tickets, reflections, academic logs) to track student progress and inform instruction.
  • Build a relationship and rapport with all MetroSquash students and their families, maintaining regular communication throughout the year.
  • Track student grades, GPA, attendance, and all other key school data, to inform individualized student support.
  • Supervise and utilize volunteers and work-study tutors in the execution of daily programming.
  • Provide year-round support connecting students to external opportunities including summer enrichment, pre-college programs, internships, etc.


Recruitment

  • Lead recruitment efforts to enroll and onboard a minimum 20 students per grade for 9th and 10th grade, ensuring that students reach key performance metrics throughout the year.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, community organizations, and families to create a robust student pipeline
  • Support MetroSquash tryouts, open houses, and recruitment events across sites and maintain accurate enrollment documentation


Retention and Attendance 

  • Monitor student attendance daily and ensure cohort maintains a 85% average monthly attendance rate
  • Log absences, follow up with families within 24 hours, and implement proactive strategies to re-engage chronically absent or disengaged students
  • Contribute to the development of strong classroom culture that keeps students emotionally connected and excited to return


Data, Reporting & Accountability 

  • Track student grades, attendance, GPA, engagement logs, and all relevant school data weekly and report to supervisor
  • Enter and update student information in Salesforce to maintain real-time access to program analytics


Collaboration & Cross Department Support 

  • Work closely with the Squash & Fitness team, Social Work & Supportive Services, and College & Careers team to support holistic student development.
  • In collaboration with the Middle School Coordinator, create a transition plan for 8th grade students, identifying opportunities throughout the year to orient students to high school programming.
  • Collaborate with teammates to plan and execute events such as family nights, trips, and academic showcases.

Candidates should possess the following: Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, or related field; 2 years of experience working with traditionally underrepresented students, particularly at the high school level; demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; strong communication and problem-solving skills; comfort with data tracking and goal-setting; strong interpersonal skills with a willingness and desire to engage with diverse stakeholders. A valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and ability to drive a 12–15 passenger van are required.


Salary: $40.000-$50,000


Hours: General hours are Monday through Friday 11:30am-7:30pm, flexibility required. The position entails weekend work – particularly on Saturdays during the school year, and eventual travel for tournaments and college tours during the school year.


Vacation & Benefits: 15 days vacation and 5 sick days; Full health coverage options, including dental.
