Metropolitan Protective Services, Inc. (MPSI) is seeking an experienced In-House Labor & Employment Attorney to serve as the company's primary legal advisor on all labor and employment matters. This position will work directly with executive leadership to provide strategic legal guidance, manage employment litigation, advise on labor relations, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.

Responsibilities
- Serve as lead legal counsel on labor and employment matters.
- Advise executive leadership, Human Resources, and Operations on employment-related legal issues.
- Represent the company before administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), EEOC, Department of Labor, and state labor agencies.
- Draft and respond to grievances, unfair labor practice charges, demand letters, and cease-and-desist correspondence.
- Provide legal guidance during union organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, labor disputes, and contract administration.
- Conduct internal workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour issues, and employee misconduct.
- Draft, review, and revise employment agreements, separation agreements, disciplinary actions, employee handbooks, and company policies.
- Advise management on employee discipline, terminations, accommodations, leaves of absence, and workplace compliance.
- Manage outside counsel and oversee litigation strategy when necessary.
- Monitor changes in labor and employment laws and implement company-wide compliance initiatives.
- Provide legal training to supervisors and managers on labor relations, employment law, and risk management.
- Support corporate transactions and operational initiatives by identifying employment-related legal risks.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar (Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia preferred).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience practicing labor and employment law.
- Significant experience handling union matters, NLRB proceedings, collective bargaining, and labor disputes.
- Strong knowledge of:
- National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- Title VII
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
- Wage and hour laws
- OSHA
- Federal and state employment regulations
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and advising employers on complex personnel matters.
- Exceptional legal writing, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while providing practical, business-oriented legal advice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience representing employers in the security services, government contracting, or service industries.
- Knowledge of Service Contract Act (SCA), Davis-Bacon Act, prevailing wage requirements, and government contractor compliance.
- Experience supporting multi-state employers.
- Experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
