Position Description
This Judicial Assistant position is a non-Civil Service position in the State Trial Courts, who serves as the primary administrative support in the office and performs the more advanced secretarial and administrative activities involved in processing legal documents and records for the judge and staff attorney. Performs other court-related duties as required.
Typical Duties
- Knowledge of the legal system and the courts
- Maintains strictest standards of confidentiality
- Performs a variety of administrative tasks as needed, including but not limited to processing mail, answering telephone calls, etc.
- Schedules appointments/meetings for the Judge and staff attorney
- Maintains the calendar of court dates, appointments, meetings, etc.
- Maintains files and records and disseminates information as necessary
- Types a variety of legal documents and correspondence
- Performs clerical work, such as electronic filing of court orders and documents
- May prepare courtroom for hearings and arrange exhibits, seating, and other physical details.
- Monitors and operates courtroom recording and presentation equipment
- Assist in maintaining evidence during trials or other court-related documents
- Assists in the conducting of jury trials, including the supervision of jurors
- May provide information to employees and the public
- May prepare directives and correspondence as needed by the judge.
Minimum Qualifications
An Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Paralegal Certification from an accredited college, university or professional school is preferred. Comparable experience is preferred.

- Excellent proof-reading and editing skills

- Proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Employee must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
- Employees must comply with court confidentiality requirements, including handling confidential information in a variety of contexts.
- Employees are “at will” and can be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Final candidate is subject to a background check and subsequent favorable suitability determination.
