The Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) of the Office of Homeless Services serves as the Nashville-Davidson County Continuum of Care’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) lead agency. The HMIS Community Engagement and Training Coordinator supports the Office of Homeless Services (OHS) by managing agency and user onboarding, strengthening HMIS participation, and ensuring high-quality data practices across the Continuum of Care (CoC). The incumbent serves as a primary system liaison to HMIS Participating Agencies, providing training, technical assistance, and ongoing communication to ensure compliance with HUD HMIS Data Standards and local CoC requirements. The Coordinator also contributes to community engagement efforts, supports HMIS-related evaluation and policy processes, and helps maintain efficient project management within the HMIS team.
The Office of Homeless Services is dedicated to improving efforts to end homelessness by harnessing local data to shape program and system design using a “systems thinking” approach.
• Manage onboarding for all new HMIS agencies and users from start to finish.
• Set up agencies and projects in HMIS according to HUD standards, ensuring clarity on funding-specific data requirements.
• Communicate HMIS system updates, data standards changes, and other relevant information to participating agencies.
• Support Agency Points of Contact and lead quarterly HMIS POC meetings.
• Provide technical assistance, troubleshooting support, and guidance on complex Help Desk inquiries.
• Participate in quarterly HMIS evaluation activities and assist in continuous improvement of system operations.
• Design and implement an HMIS User Group feedback forum.
• Conduct community outreach and education to increase HMIS participation and strengthen system-wide engagement.
• Develop and deliver HMIS training for regulations, software workflow, data entry, and reporting (CoC APR, ESG CAPER, etc.)
• Maintain and update training curriculum within the Learning Management System (LMS).
• Manage user accounts, usernames, and passwords for new system users.
• Coordinate with HMIS Committees and CoC partners to update HMIS Policies and Procedures, Data Quality Plan, and Data Security Plan.
• Track project progress and documentation in Asana.
• Staff assigned CoC Committee meetings and support the work of the HMIS Manager and Coordinated Entry Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- Bachelors Degree in Social Work or a related field
Experience providing training, user support, or customer service in a technical or service-oriented environment. Experience in homeless programs, systems, policy development; program evaluations, outcomes measurement, or management information systems. - Knowledge of Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or willing and able to learn these areas of expertise within the first six months.
