Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Met Council’s ten departments are staffed by experts who helped over 325,000 clients in 2020 and continuously advocate for all needy New Yorkers. Our holistic programs range from 100% affordable housing at 20 locations to our award-winning family violence program to comprehensive Holocaust survivor assistance to senior programming to crisis intervention to the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, 20 affordable housing sites, and 15 JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York.

Position Summary:

Met Council Bronx Fulfillment Center is Met Council’s Hub for serving and engaging communities in the Bronx and New York City. While the Spitzer Fulfillment Center is Met Council’s Hub for serving and engaging communities in New York City, Westchester, New Jersey, and Long Island. Both spaces and its programs serve to fill gaps in kosher and halal food needs by prioritizing dignity and accessibility through Market by Met Council, our online ordering platform, while offering our supporters opportunities to volunteer, help with projects, and learn more about Met Council’s commitments to NYC and beyond. This dual role is based on the Volunteer Services team and collaborating fully with our Food Programs team.

The Fulfillment Center Coordinator will support pantry operations, engage projects, volunteer events, manage pantry support staff, and extend the program's reach, including overseeing existing external projects and pursuing strategic service opportunities. The coordinator will also collaborate with all our partners to broaden engagement opportunities in the Bronx.

Please note: This is a hybrid position (four days on-site, one day remote). 2-3 days will be at the Bronx Fulfillment Center and the remaining days at the Spitzer Fulfillment Center in Manhattan with Fridays being remote.

Principal Responsibilities:
Operations

  • Manage relevant ops and logistics support staff, including support for long-term individual volunteers.
  • Manage temporary support staff members at the fulfillment centers when related to pantry and event work. This includes assigning tasks to each staff member and providing instructions to ensure they are completed properly.
  • Ensure all volunteer timesheets are correctly completed.
  • Effectively use Pantry Management tools to ensure that the pantry is running smoothly.
  • Create processes and manage communication channels to support Bronx needs and functions with Volunteer and Food Programs Operations.
  • Supporting pantry operations and site communication.
  • Work with the Volunteer Services team to support engagement projects, new initiatives, and events
    • Working with volunteers, donors, and community groups on events to support the needs of the community.
    • Support sharing the story of our work through media and branding.
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the pantry.
  • Thoroughly manage inventory of the pantry, ensuring it is a fully stocked space with all necessary food and non-food essentials, including office and event supplies.
  • Communicate efficiently with support staff about deliveries and pickups in advance of deliveries.
  • Coordinate monthly delivery and pick up schedule with support staff.

Strategic Projects

  • Aligning with the Food Programs on upcoming projects, grant compliance, and investments.
  • Attend mandatory Food Pantry Network and Market by Met Council Pantry Network trainings to ensure compliance.

Volunteerism/Events

  • Support the Volunteer Services team to prepare and oversee the food packing component of volunteer projects.
  • Maintain inventory of pantry products and office supplies, ensuring all needed items are on site ahead of scheduled events.
  • Ensure the space remains a welcoming, exciting, and functional place to sustain and grow Met Council’s program goals and activities.
  • Assist with the preparation for volunteer events, including accepting deliveries and setting up food and non-food essential kits.
  • Ensure all volunteers scheduled to volunteer at SFC have tasks prepared for them to complete upon arrival for their volunteer shift.
  • Always maintain communication with volunteers and the Volunteer Services team using the preferred methods and channels of the team.
  • Oversee deliveries arriving at the Bronx Fulfillment Center and warehouse pickups.
  • Assist with overseeing deliveries arriving at Spitzer Fulfillment Center and warehouse pickups.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to update the team on the progress of independent work functions
  • Experience with donors and community stakeholders
  • Experience with local community groups or willingness to learn about the local landscape
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work on a team with constant collaboration and open communication.
  • Working knowledge of Office 365, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams (or comparable collaboration tools)
  • Knowledge of Salesforce a plus
  • Significant organization skills, with an ability to stay focused on assigned tasks

Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Fluent in English (required), additional languages helpful
  • Strong computer proficiency (required)

Physical Demands:

  • Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity, and coordination of hand, eye, and foot. Walking up and down the stairs. Using a hand truck or wagon to push products. Reaching above the shoulder. Being outside.
  • Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs.); lifting up to 50 pounds; pushing and pulling.
  • Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder.

Special Requirements:

  • Occasional Sunday working hours, after-hours programming, and holiday days are expected for days of service and special events.
  • Travel between multiple Met Council locations.
  • Increased involvement based on the agency’s seasonal needs.

Compensation: $50,000 to $55,000 per year.
