The Supervisor, Traction Power Training is part of the Light Rail Training Department. This role is responsible for training Traction Power systems maintenance staff, as well as SWLRT staff. Duties include, but are not limited to, training for all activities associated with the Traction Power required training, safety training and project training. With direction from the Manager of Rail Training and Development - Maintenance, the Traction Power Training Supervisor will develop and provide technical maintenance training to rail maintenance personnel on traction power equipment and, in concert with department managers, will develop, administer and maintain records for all Traction Power Maintenance staff. The Traction Power Maintenance Training Supervisor will also create and facilitate Traction Power Maintenance instruction programs for shop safety, Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS), Quarterly Department training, cross training with other departments, and specialized training; coordinate external provider training; and create and maintain new employee and professional development training. In addition, they will acquire information on state-of-the-art practices in the industry and work with the Manager of Rail Training and Development - Maintenance to assess, design, develop, implement, and evaluate the Systems Maintenance department's training needs. The incumbent will be responsible for creating, designing, and deploying E-learning courses for the Traction Power Maintenance Department. The development and creation of trainings will be strongly supported by utilizing MS Word, MS Outlook, MS TEAMS, Storyline 360 (Articulate) and MS PowerPoint.
This role will be working in partnership with the current Traction Power Maintenance department management team to ensure all special projects, training requests and new hire training is completed.
The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin. This position is based out of our Light Rail Training Center in Minneapolis.
What you would do in this job:
- Conducts needs-based training assessment for the Traction Power Maintenance Department and provides prioritized recommendations of training project requests to the Manager of Rail Training and Development - Maintenance.
- Provides specific written and verbal instruction, classroom and in-shop training, and direction to Traction Power Maintenance staff based on agency and department policies and procedures.
- Administers, manages and maintains records of instruction programs for safety, Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS), and Quarterly Department Training.
- Develops eLearning modules utilizing information from manufacturers, Traction Power Consortium, maintenance manuals, and subject matter experts.
- Coordinates external training through corporate and community partners.
- Develops training reference guides and "lessons learned" documents and improves documentation for the Training Department. Interprets electrical schematics and engineering drawings and translates to the training course material.
- Ensures compliance with record management to meet the needs of State safety audits pertaining to staff training.
- Attends professional development courses as needed or advised by the Manager of Rail Training and Development - Maintenance.
- Creates technical and mechanical videos and courses. Learns, utilizes and trains others on the use of the Met Council Learning Management System.
- Utilizes the Training Department e-Learning authoring tools, Articulate and Adobe Elements, to create courses to be used on the Learning Management System.
- Utilizes and maintains the Traction Power Maintenance section of the Training Department SharePoint site.
- Scheduling and coordinating training for the Traction Power Maintenance Department efficiently and will transparency with the Manager of Rail Training - Maintenance and the Traction Power Maintenance Management teams.
Minimum qualifications:
Any of the following combinations of experience in electrical, rail systems/maintenance of way, or closely related field including at least one (1) year of supervisory and/or proven leadership experience and completed education in adult education, training and development, public administration, transportation, engineering, management or related field:
- High school diploma/GED with eight (8) years of experience, including one (1) year of supervisory and/or proven leadership experience.
- Associate’s degree with six (6) years of experience, including one (1) year of supervisory and/or proven leadership experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with four (4) years of experience, including one (1) year of supervisory and/or proven leadership experience.
License Requirement: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
