JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The VPAP Specialist supports the incarcerated and re-entry population enrolled in the Vocational and Pre-Apprenticeship Program (VPAP). The Specialist supports students from orientation through program completion. The VPAP Specialist conducts intake, helps build individualized plans and tracks outcomes. This position collaborates with MCC stakeholders to connect VPAP students to education, training, resources and successful pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and long-term employment.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Initiates VPAP orientations to collect demographic and goal setting information.
Implements assessments for eligibility and VPAP enrollment.
Assists VPAP students to develop and modify individualized plans in collaboration with Re-entry Education team.
Assesses participant needs, barriers and connects participants to resources.
Connects VPAP students to education, life skill and work readiness training.
Provides ongoing peer support, coaching and tutoring.
Monitors and tracks completion points, interactions, and service and support provided.
Collaborates with second chance employers to expand opportunities for VPAP participants.
Advocates for and builds number of federally registered apprenticeships.
Collaborates with Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) and Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) to build program strength.
Facilitates employer-apprenticeship relationships for successful outcomes.
Collaborates with Career Readiness Center and Assistant Director to provide apprenticeship and job search, referrals and placement support.
Partners with stakeholders to build and expand VPAP participants support team.
Assists with ongoing tracking and reporting of participant and program outcomes.
Participates in various events including, but not limited to: departmental meetings, community and re-entry meetings and student appreciation and re-entry events.
Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of administrative support functions and office practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in human relations and diplomacy.
- Ability to communicate, effectively work and interact with a diverse population, various cultures and ethnicities.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree.
- Four (4) years of full-time work-related experience including high attention to detail, providing support and scheduling.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
- Valid driver's license and insurability to drive college vehicles is required.
- Must pass a background check.
