Family Home Visitors are dedicated to building relationships with parents to support them in building a nurturing and trusting relationship with their child. Those relationships promote healthy child growth and development and support the well-being of the entire family. Family Home Visitors use therapeutic home visiting skills such as reflective dialogue to strengthen parent-child relationships, improve parenting skills, teach effective problem solving, and reduce family stress. They also help parents identify and access community resources that will help the family accomplish their goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job.
- Build trusting relationships with families to engage and retain families in the program.
- Visit with each family for at least one hour per week until the end of 10-week program. (In-person and virtual visits).
- Provide emotional support and use active listening skills during visits.
- Prepare and facilitate home visits using all components of the program curriculum.
- Support positive parent-child interaction and a secure attachment relationship between parent and child.
- Make referrals to community resources.
- Model and teach families effective problem-solving skills.
- Support families to engage in appropriate preventive medical care for themselves and their children.
- Maintain a professional, supportive relationship with families throughout the course of the program.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for each parent and child as unique individuals.
- Complete all necessary documentation within the time frame indicated in the program policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, human development, early childhood development or another related field.
- At least 6 months of demonstrated experience working with or providing services to children and families or working in parent education, home visiting, and/or child development setting.
- Demonstrated education and/or knowledge of infant and child development.
DRIVING REQUIRED: Yes
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Basic math skills required.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Open to reflective practice (i.e., has capacity for introspection communicates awareness of self in relation to others, recognizes value of supervision, etc.)
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain a Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.
- Liability insurance is required if an employee will operate a personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center’s liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
