Responsibilities:
The Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired will provide individual or group educational instruction to children with visual impairments. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: consultation with classroom teachers or other service providers, conducting initial evaluations, and formal/informal monitoring of a student’s progress through daily notes, quarterly reports, and annual review testing. This position serves children with various physical, behavioral, and developmental challenges ranging in age from birth to 21 years old.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Utilizes assessment tools to gather information to determine eligibility for services and support plans.
Delivers specialized individual and group instruction by adhering to mandated IEPs, ISFPs, etc.
Consults and collaborates with other treatment team members and professionals (OT, PT, etc.) to meet student’s educational needs.
Assesses and documents each student’s progress through formal and informal tests and assessments.
Prepares annual review reports and progress summaries for each student in accordance with program due dates.
Provides parent and guardian support and education to discuss the student’s progress and strategies for continued support outside of school.
Attends meetings as needed to provide input and guidance on service provision.
Plans and prepares the learning environment as well as materials and supplies.
Implements the daily program through consistent daily and weekly lesson plans.
Follows safety guidelines and directives for the student and the school.
Assists with the implementation of communication devices and assistive technology, as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited education program.
A current Blind and Visually Impaired teacher certification.
Must meet the requirements of the New York State Department of Education.
Posted Salary Range: USD $22.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
