ELL Teacher
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; Teacher Duty Days per the School Calendar

Pay:Starting salary is based on college degrees, certifications and K-12 teaching experience in the U.S.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong skills in middle and high school instructional practices.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles.
  • Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities.
  • Knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts.
  • Provides differentiated instructional methods and content to ensure student mastery of content
  • Knowledge of best practices in classroom management.
  • Ability to evaluate student performance and to present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative learning environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction and support for ELL students in both a pull-out and push-in model; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
  • Evaluate student performance in accordance with systems used by school and/or District; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the principal as prescribed or authorized by the superintendent.
  • Perform classroom management duties; enforce rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records including but not limited to attendance, grades, assessments and lesson plans
  • Connect with families via phone calls, emails, conferences and school events
  • Foster a social environment with students to develop trust, respect, friendships and self-discovery
  • Participate in professional development meetings/clusters providing student work when requested.
  • Implement new learning in the classroom following professional development.
  • Utilize student achievement data to address strengths and weaknesses of students and guide instructional decisions.
  • Adhere to MN Teachers Code of Conduct
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting
  • Other related duties as assigned

Responsible for instructing high school ELL students from grades 9-12. Create a flexible classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Instruct students in grade level content, making language accessible based on a student’s reading and math performance levels. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education. Establish collaborative relationships with parents and other staff members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English or related field.
  • Current MN teaching license or the ability to obtain one at the time of hire.
  • Must be a current U.S. resident.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of teaching experience
  • Bachelor's degree in ELL
  • Experience working with children of diverse ethnic backgrounds in an urban school setting
