Metro Relief is a nonprofit committed to providing short-term care to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. We are seeking a dynamic, mission-driven Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts and expand our impact in the community.
Position Overview
The Development Director is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy. This role requires a "player-coach" mentality—the ability to think strategically while managing the day-to-day execution of our annual events, a diverse donor portfolio, and a multi-year campaign.
Key Responsibilities
1. Event Management
- Annual Gala: Lead the planning, sponsorship solicitation, and execution of our largest annual fundraiser.
- Golf Tournament: Oversee all logistics, committee management, and corporate sponsorships for the yearly tournament.
- Peer-to-Peer Adventure: Manage the digital platform and participant recruitment for our signature adventure-based fundraising initiative.
- North Texas Giving Day: Partner with Communities Foundation to raise funds in a push for Non-Profit Giving throughout North Texas
- End of Year Giving: Design and implement a strategy and plan to communicate needs to our major donors and ask for donations.
2. Donor Engagement & Management
- Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, including mid-level and major gift prospects.
- Maintain the donor database (CRM) to ensure accurate record-keeping, gift acknowledgement, and data-driven reporting.
- Develop a formal moves management system to transition occasional donors into long-term partners.
3. Marketing & Communications
- Influence and inform the organization’s storytelling efforts across social media, email newsletters, and the annual report. Including creating and maintaining presence.
- Work with the CEO to ensure brand consistency and clear messaging regarding the homelessness crisis.
- Manage public relations and community outreach to increase organizational visibility.
4. Foundation Relationships & Grants
- Identify, research, and apply for grants from private and family foundations.
- Maintain a calendar of reporting requirements and ensure all grant deliverables are met and documented.
- Host site visits for foundation representatives to showcase the impact of our programs.
5. Capital Campaign Leadership
- Partner with the Board of Directors and CEO to execute the capital campaign.
- Identify lead donors and prepare high-level solicitation materials and feasibility reports.
- Monitor campaign progress and manage all recognition programs for capital donors.
6. Board Relations & Strategic Growth
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board’s Development Committee.
- Prepare monthly fundraising reports and annual revenue projections.
- Identify new revenue streams, such as planned giving or corporate employee engagement programs.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5 years of professional fundraising experience, preferably within a nonprofit serving vulnerable populations.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in managing large-scale events and securing major gifts ($10k ).
- Communication: Exceptional writing and public speaking skills; ability to convey the urgency of the crisis of the unhoused.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in donor CRM software (e.g., Bloomerang, Raiser's Edge) and peer-to-peer platforms (e.g., Classy, GiveButter).
- Attributes: Compassionate, highly organized, mission-minded, driven, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
