Statement of Purpose: This position is on-site at a Metro Healthy Communities clinic, supporting a community-based Primary Care team. The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care, clinical support, and accurate documentation, working collaboratively with Providers and staff to deliver safe, high-quality, and compliant care in a diverse community setting.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake, including vital signs, medical history review, and risk assessments
- Room patients and prepare them for provider visits
- Carry out provider orders, including venipuncture, injections, specimen collection, and medication administration
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record
- Triage patient phone calls and walk-ins; identify urgent concerns and escalate appropriately
- Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and other clinical administrative tasks
- Provide basic patient education and health counseling as directed
- Review charts daily to ensure documentation is complete and visit-ready
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and clinic protocols
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, behavioral health, and support staff
- File lab results, referrals, and medical records as needed
- Assist with data collection and clinic initiatives as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned within LPN/MA scope of practice
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of LPN/MA experience
- At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience
- At least 1 year of injection experience
- Current CPR certification
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and documentation standards
- Experience with OSHA requirements, safety protocols, and compliance standards
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
- Understanding of patient triage and basic community health resources
- Commitment to compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered care
Requirements
- Valid Florida driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel between clinic locations if needed
- Successful completion of Level II background check, fingerprinting, and E-Verify employment eligibility
