Metro Aviation, Inc. is seeking a Helicopter Maintenance Test Pilot/Program Relief Pilot (IFR/PIC) (EC135) for our operations in Tennessee at the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Program.

Job Objective

The Maintenance Test Pilot/ Program Relief Pilot is responsible for conducting general maintenance test flights, aircraft ferry, charter, and duty assignments as well as occasionally providing pilot relief within the assigned program, as well as other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
Directly responsible for, and is the final authority regarding the assigned aircraft operation at all times.
Serve as liaison between Metro Aviation and Metro Aviation maintenance facilities, as assigned, coordinates with applicable Director of Part 135 Maintenance (or Director of Part 145 Maintenance if applicable) to ensure all concerns/complaints and requests that are within the pilot's scope of responsibility are attended to, and immediately escalates all other concerns/complaints or requests to their direct supervisor
At all times, performs their duties in a professional and courteous manner, this includes their interaction with customers, co-workers, management, and the general public
As required by Metro Aviation, maintains qualification of and may be assigned the duties and responsibilities of a Pilot-In-Command
Maintain a work and training schedule as set forth by Metro Aviation
Attend meetings as required
Comply with all directives and guidance of the Metro Aviation General Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, Policy & Procedures, Company Bulletins, Federal Aviation Regulations and any other guidance/directives/regulations and/or policy and procedures as applicable
Perform pre-flight, in-flight, post-flight procedures and verifies weight and balance in accordance with RFM, Metro Aviation Maintenance facility procedures as appropriate
Perform operational ground checks, taxi checks, hover checks, functional check flights, general and limited maintenance flights, confirmation check flights of aircraft and aircraft systems undergoing maintenance and determines, in accordance with RFM, FAA ADs, FAA SBs, and PAC procedures, the airworthiness of an aircraft prior to its release
Perform troubleshooting procedures of an aircraft on the ground and in flight, and makes appropriate (verbal or written) recommendations to assist maintenance personnel in correcting deficiencies
Verify forms and records used in the performance of maintenance to ensure they comply with work performed prior to ground or flight checks
Ensure proper documentation is chronicled for aircraft release to customer
Perform ferry flights as required
Occasionally provide Pilot relief within the program, as needed or as assigned
Maintain proficiency in basic flight maneuvers, appropriate aircraft emergency procedures and instrument flying, if applicable, for model flown consistent with Metro Aviation requirements
  • May delegate any function (by approval of the Director of Part 135 Operations) but retains responsibility
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA)

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
Required Certificates
FAA Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft Certificate and Instrument Helicopter Rating (Airline Transport Pilot Rotorcraft Preferred)
FAA 2nd Class Medical (1st Class required at some locations
Valid Driver's License
Minimum Required Experience (Regulatory and CAMTS Requirements)
Total Flight Time = 2,000 hours
Helicopter Flight Time = 1,200 hours
Total Pilot-in-Command Helicopter Time = 1,000 hours
Turbine Helicopter Time = 500 hours
Total X/C Time = 500 hours
Total Night Time = 100 hours (50 unaided)
Total Instrument Time = 75 hours (50 in flight)
EC135 or EC145 experience
Preferred Experience
Air Medical operations
Single Pilot IFR operations
Night Vision Goggle operations
Maintenance Pilot experience
FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate

Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and walking
Ability to conduct activities requiring a moderate to rigorous amount of static pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting
Capable of lifting 40 pounds floor to bench height
Ability to hear and respond to routine aircraft noises
Maintain a "duty" weight (body weight uniform/equipment helmet not included) if applicable per program
Ability to wear a commercially available respirator mask with proper fit when requested
Require close and distant visual capability
Periodic hands to key ability (typing)
Work Environment
Temperature controlled office/rest quarters
Exposure to outdoor aircraft facility with potential cold and hot temperatures
Exposure to running aircraft
Exposure to refueling systems
Status & Work Schedule
Full Time
180 hours per month/2,160 hours per year
Workover is available depending on the needs of the program
Travel to required annual training
