Job Summary
The Commercial Construction Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the project's comprehensive safety program in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as DIA’s specific safety requirements. This includes hazard identification and control, accident prevention, safety training, regulatory compliance, and promoting a positive safety culture on the project site.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a site-specific safety plan that meets all applicable regulations and DIA requirements.
- Conduct regular job site safety inspections and hazard assessments, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations, including those specific to DIA.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for all project personnel, including subcontractors.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, including training records, inspection reports, and accident investigations.
- Collaborate with project management and subcontractors to integrate safety into all phases of the project.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations, taking appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.
- Manage and mentor site safety staff (if applicable).
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including DIA representatives, regarding safety issues.
- Stay current on all relevant safety regulations and best practices.
- Participate in project safety meetings and provide regular safety updates to the project team.
- Manage and maintain safety equipment and supplies.
- Implement and manage a robust near-miss reporting system.
- Conduct regular audits of the safety program to ensure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans.
- Understand and adhere to all DIA security protocols and requirements.
- Hold a Board of Certified Safety Professionals CSP with at least 4 years of full-time relevant construction safety and health experience; or
- Hold a Board of Certified Safety Professionals ASP, GSP, or SMS with at least 6 years of full-time relevant construction safety and health experience; or
- Hold a Board of Certified Safety Professionals CHST or OHST with at least 8 years of full-time relevant construction safety and health experience.
- Completed the OSHA 500 course for construction within the last 24 months, remaining current for the duration of the project.
- Provide proof of non-expired completion of a Red Cross or approved equal for Cardio–Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillation (AED).
- Provide proof of completion of FMCSA compliant 2-hour drug and alcohol reasonable suspicion supervisory training.
- Knowledge of and ability to fulfill contractor safety representative’s responsibilities set forth in this Manual and the Contractor’s CSPP where applicable.
