What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior MEP Project Manager - Data Center Construction position at Metric DCX?
Senior MEP Project Manager – Data Centers
📍 Cedar Rapids, IA | Travelling Role
⚡ Immediate Start
I’m working with a major ENR-ranked General Contractor that is adding to its data center team in Cedar Rapids and looking for a Senior MEP Project Manager.
They need someone who knows how to own the MEP package on a live data center construction project — not just coordinate from the side lines.
You’ll be responsible for taking the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection packages through construction and ultimately into commissioning and handover.
Day to day, that means managing the MEP subcontractors, keeping on top of programme and procurement, resolving design and field issues, coordinating with VDC/BIM and making sure the different trades are actually working together.
You’ll also have responsibility for areas including:
• MEP subcontractor selection, scopes and performance
• Submittals, RFIs, change orders and monthly requisitions
• Long-lead equipment and delivery schedules
• BIM/VDC and clash coordination
• Site progress and construction sequencing
• Testing, balancing and commissioning
• Utility and AHJ coordination
• Life-safety and inspection requirements
• Punch lists, O&Ms, as-builts and final closeout
• Owner training and project turnover
The important bit - what do you need to have?
I’m looking for someone with 10 years around MEP/FP systems, including at least 5 years managing MEP packages/projects.
Most importantly, you need to have delivered data center construction projects from the General Contractor side.
You should be comfortable reading drawings and specifications, managing multiple MEP trades and working across the likes of ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA and LEED requirements.
A relevant degree across Mechanical, Electrical, Engineering, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection or a similar technical discipline is also required.
This isn't a role where you'll be limited to one small piece of the project.
You’ll have visibility across the full MEP delivery - working with the owner, design teams, field leadership, subcontractors, VDC, commissioning teams, utilities and AHJs.
If you’ve built data centers for a GC, know MEP inside out and are open to travelling to Cedar Rapids, drop me a message.
