Position Summary
We are seeking a Technical Writer to support research, development, and prototyping efforts in RF, cyber, and electromagnetic domains, with a strong emphasis on customer-facing documentation. This role is critical to ensure complex technical capabilities are captured with clarity, accuracy, and consistency for both internal stakeholders and end users. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, scientists, and end user organizations to produce high-quality deliverables such as user manuals, quick start guides, troubleshooting steps, and system documentation that support current solutions and the transition of prototypes into fielded products.

Role And Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, and maintain customer-facing documents, including user manuals, quick start guides, installation instructions, FAQs, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Create and update technical deliverables for research projects, prototypes, and fielded products, including design specifications, system architecture, and test reports.
- Translate highly technical information from subject matter experts into clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate content for customers, stakeholders, and internal users.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (hardware engineers, software developers, RF specialists, cyber operators) to capture design intent, development processes, and performance results.
- Standardize document formats, templates, according to Metrea’s style guide to ensure a professional, consistent customer experience.
- Maintain version control of all documents, ensuring accuracy and alignment across product lifecycles.
- Support proposal development and business development activities by producing polished technical narratives and capability descriptions.
- Contribute to knowledge management efforts by organizing technical libraries, glossaries, and reference materials.
- Applicants must be a US citizen.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a STEM field with strong writing background (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience developing customer-facing technical documentation for hardware and software products, such as manuals, quick start guides, or product guides.
- Strong ability to grasp and communicate complex technical subjects in RF, cyber, or related domains.
- Proficiency with documentation tools (Markdown, FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, Confluence, or Git-based systems) and Microsoft Office products (Word, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiarity with layout and graphics tools for creating diagrams and illustrations (Figma, Visio, or Adobe Illustrator).
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and version management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Experience writing for defense program offices or product producing defense companies.
- Knowledge of RF systems, electronic warfare, or cyber concepts.
- Experience producing technical deliverables for government customers.
- Highly collaborative and able to build strong relationships with technical experts.
- Detail-oriented with an ability to effectively contribute to multiple projects, with a focus on quality, on-time deliverables.
- Skilled at thinking from the end user’s perspective to ensure clear, usable documentation.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environments.
- Curious, adaptable, and willing to learn new concepts and subjects in order to communicate them effectively.
