Residential Supervisor (ON)

JOB SUMMARY

The Residential Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and management of the child care staff assigned. The Residential Supervisor must possess strong organizational and leadership skills and exhibit the intellectual and emotional maturity required to work with youth who have behavioral issues and difficulty relating to others due to developmental delays, mental health needs and trauma. This position requires respect and compassionate understanding for the youth in care and the ability to balance the need for nurture and structure in the work with youth. The Director of Residential Services must have a thorough understanding of and demonstrated competency in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and other evidence-based programs offered in the assigned area. Residential Supervisor must have the ability to form and maintain healthy relationships with youth and coworkers, effectively communicate with others, solve problems and regulate their own behavior in all situations. The Residential Supervisor must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop a relationship with each youth in care and proactively teach self-regulation techniques and acceptable ways to give and receive care.
• Know and teach staff and youth the MCH Life Skills while promoting TBRI and other trauma-informed approaches to care.
• Use the IDEAL approach to discipline and appropriately intervene with youth who exhibit inappropriate behaviors or who need assistance in regulating their behavior.
• Work with Residential staff to ensure a safe, clean and orderly home for youth in compliance with applicable licensing and accreditation standards.
• Supervise youth in care to ensure their safety and well-being and adjust the level of supervision according to the circumstances and needs of the youth.
• Perform Residential responsibilities related to the care of residents including appropriate clothing and hygiene; medication administration; medical and dental appointments; and participation in school, spiritual development, recreational and age-appropriate skill development activities.
• Participate in the selection, training and supervision of Youth Care Counselors and Home Parents.
• Role model and provide ongoing feedback through regular supervision and evaluations to assigned staff to ensure the MCH model of care is effectively implemented in each home.
• Coordinate the staffing schedule and ensure adequate staff coverage at all times.
• Review and approve payroll time sheets for assigned staff.
• Provide support to other homes during times of crisis.
• Ensure that the home is adequately stocked with food and essentials while working with Home Services Specialist staff.
• Report any work orders or repairs that are needed to the plant department.
• Monitor the accuracy of medication administration and documentation.
• Schedule and document emergency evacuation drills and ensure the assigned areas of responsibility maintain adequate emergency food and supplies at all times.
• Oversee volunteer service projects and programming during resident vacation periods.
• Manage agency funds, resources and equipment, assigned to and for their use, safely and according to agency policy and procedures.
• Complete required documentation to promote safe child care and sound home management.
• Ensure all facilities and equipment are clean, organized and maintained.
• The Residential Supervisor should maintain strong organizational and communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a professional position and may require more hours than the normal 40-hour workweek. This position requires work after normal office hours, during the weekend or on holidays. The Residential Supervisor primarily works the 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. shift, but must be able to work a variety of shifts to ensure sufficient oversight of assigned staff. This position also requires the employee to fill in during staff shortages due to vacation, holidays or unexpected staff absences. Most duties are performed on the assigned campus, but transportation of residents to activities and events in the local community is frequent. Out of town and overnight travel may be required. MCH provides an agency vehicle for the transportation of residents for all activities and events. An automobile for in town and out of town travel is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided for use of personal automobile for approved business purposes. A technology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements of this position.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE

The Residential Supervisor must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of one year experience in a residential child care program. An undergraduate degree and experience as a Youth Care Counselor in a Methodist Children's Home program are preferred.

TRAINING

Training hours must be completed annually to comply with licensing and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.

OTHER

The Residential Supervisor must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history and acceptable references.
