Position Summary
Responsible for the development of the facilities inspection program related to stationary equipment, piping, pipelines, and pressure safety devices to assure process reliability, safety and continued operation. Develop, set up and maintain the plant’s conditioning monitoring program, develop inspection and testing plans, establish and predict replacement requirements and modifications, develop repair plans, inspect repairs and modifications for compliance with governmental and industrial codes and regulations, direct and supervise associate inspectors and contract inspection resources, track inspection findings, develop an Risked Based Inspection program and implement, assist Maintenance, Engineering and Capital Project groups with reliability and technical information.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of inspectors, NDE technicians, and contractors to develop and maintain the sites mechanical integrity program.
- Develop a plan to implement a risk-based inspection program for pressure vessels, piping, and pressure safety devices.
- Responsible for the oversight of the serviceability of piping, vessels, towers, heaters, exchangers, boilers, and any other critical process equipment by visual, ultrasonic, x-ray, dye penetrate testing and magnetic particle inspection of equipment.
- Responsible for the oversight of maintain and monitor Corrosion Computerized monitoring system employing U.T. on corrosion rates, inspection dates and retirement prediction of plant equipment. All subsequent U.T. inspections will be entered into the program along with pressure, temperature, service, material, and minimum thickness. Maintain and update mechanical integrity documents and files in a well-organized manner.
- Perform routine analysis of inspection and conditioning monitoring programs, keeping records of deterioration patterns and behaviors.
- Responsible for the oversight of the development of equipment specific Inspection and Testing Plans.
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management
- Mechanical Integrity and compliance with Methanex’s Mechanical Integrity Manual and Design Standards.
- Perform vendor shop inspections/audits and provide onsite project inspections daily.
- Maintain communication with Contractors, Maintenance, Construction, Operations and Engineering on various matters including inspection/code requirements, condition of equipment, workmanship that does not meet requirements, and recommendations regarding repair of equipment or poor workmanship.
- Must be able to make recommendations on shutdown of equipment and piping due to corrosion and serviceability.
- Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Strong leadership skills
- Provides and manages the mechanical integrities budget including manpower estimates to support inspection, testing and maintenance activities.
- Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation for the company.
- Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
- Assists other Departments as necessary.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
- API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code: In-Service Inspection, Rating, Repair, and Alteration preferred.
- API 570 Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Re-Rating of In-Service Piping Systems preferred.
- API 653 Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Re-Construction preferred.
Education, Experience, and/or Training
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- BS Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and previous certifications in Level II PT, MT, UT examinations and API 510, 570, 571, 577, 580, 581 and 653.
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience as an API fixed equipment inspector and supervision of inspectors in a heavy industrial environment (refining, petrochemicals) and have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of refinery maintenance procedures including safety procedures involving repair and maintenance of equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Regulatory Requirements – understanding the laws and governance.
- The ability to work at a moderate noise level in the work environment is required. Must be able to work in a plant environment involving climbing, confined spaces, etc. Fluent in English, excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
- Good computer skills required.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, API Standards and ASME Codes, Computer Corrosion Monitoring
- Must be able to operate NDT equipment, UT, PT, MT and VT and interpret Radiographic Film
- Must be able to read isometric drawings.
- Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.
Security Clearance Requirements
- Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
Software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Familiar with Asset Management Software
- Familiar with Computerized Maintenance Management Software
Physical
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 35 pounds.
- Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time required.
- Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental
- Work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
- Work is performed in the “field”, requiring proper safety equipment.
- Requires passing by industrial equipment on way to office.
- Noise levels are typically moderate.
Work Schedule
- Rolling 80 Hour work week – Week 1: M-Th (9HR), F (8HR) Week 2: M-Thu (9HR), F (off)
- May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.
Travel
- Less than 10% of the time.
