We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Layout Designer to support our job shop operations by developing efficient, safe, and flexible manufacturing layouts. In this role, you will collaborate closely with production, engineering, and safety teams to create optimized floor plans, improve workflow, and reduce material handling costs. Using your CAD expertise and strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, you will play a key part in driving continuous improvement, supporting equipment installation, and ensuring all layout documentation is accurate, organized, and compliant with industry standards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
- Design and implement layouts:Develop detailed floor plans for job shop facilities to optimize workflow and reduce material handling costs.
- Analyze processes:Evaluate current layouts and identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and safety hazards.
- Collaborate with teams:Work with production, engineering, and safety teams to ensure layouts meet operational requirements.
- Use CAD tools:Create accurate diagrams and models using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Plan for flexibility:Design layouts that accommodate diverse products and frequent changeovers typical in job shop environments.
- Ensure compliance:Incorporate safety standards, ergonomics, and lean manufacturing principles into layout designs.
- Support installation:Oversee equipment placement and assist with commissioning and maintenance planning.
- Continuous improvement:Recommend layout changes to improve productivity and reduce costs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for compiling fabrication packages for manufacturing including but not limited to material and assembly layouts and equipment programming.
- Responsible for supplying material requisitions to purchasing and may be required to purchase material.
- Establish and maintain all layout documentation in a Customer Part Folder to be stored on the layout department file server.
- Supply the job shop administrator an updated material list with costs.
- Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Must be able to read, understand and work from blueprints
- Minimum 3 years experience with the metal fabricating process
