Shift Supervisor
Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking Shift Supervisor in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth-oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace, and fabrication industries.
Responsibilities:
- Provides constant visibility in the plant and ensures that all plant employees abide by ISO9001/AS9100 procedures and work instructions.
- Interacts with all departments to ensure optimal production and on-time delivery schedule.
- Inspects work areas and monitors work activities to proactively address safety risks and operational standards.
- Engages employees to be proficient in material handling, production processes, machine capability, production reporting, transportation and/or multiple machine operation acquired through considerable experience and/or training.
- Strives continually to improve manpower utilization to align with production process in order to positively impact revenue.
- Supervises the receipt of incoming material shipments, verifying that appropriate receipt and quality control inspections are completed in a timely manner and appropriate transactions are made to complete the receiving process.
- Ensures that materials in the warehouse are stored properly, inspected and processed via accepted material handling and warehousing principles. Supervises and participates in the physical inventory control process.
- Supervises staging of materials to support timely delivery of materials, prepare shipments of items as required and prepare materials for processing to scrap.
- Reviews shipping schedules and paperwork daily for completion, accuracy, and will review the shipping schedule for upcoming orders to ensure that they are processed and ready for on-time delivery.
- Coordinates operations and activities within or between departments.
- Ensures that all materials are stored safely and accessible; inventory control system is revised daily and is accurate.
- Ensures that the facility is in safe operating condition, free of hazards. Strives continually to improve workplace safety awareness and achieves an injury-free work environment. Implements a world class safety culture.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Ensures that collective bargaining agreement, if applicable, is effectively administered, and is in compliance with the current collective bargaining agreement language under the NLRA.

- Maintains individual knowledge/skill and experience as required to ensure optimal production acumen.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Production Supervisor in the warehouse.
- Adheres to, explains and enforces all company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
Physical Demands:
Occupation requires physical activity more than 80% of the time (> 6.5 hours per day)
- Stand, walk, sit, talk , hear, use of hands and fingers, hand-eye coordination reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
- Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
- Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance
Other Physical Requirements:
- Steel-toed boots
- Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
- Protective eyewear
- Visual Acuity requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Hand protection
- Arm guards/sleeves
- Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
Work Environment:
May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
- Working both inside and outside of the warehouse facility
- Exposure to all weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, precipitation and snow
- Moderate to loud noise levels
- Vibration
- Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent required with prior steel service management experience
- Bachelor Degree in Business Management preferred
- Preferably possess a minimum of 5 years as a supervisor in a production/manufacturing environment
- Should have prior experience with the metals service; preferably with carbon steel (tubing, beam and plate)
- Previous experience / broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
- Ability to interface effectively with all departments to foster a success-oriented, deadline driven organization.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both oral & written communication to internal & external customers.
- Must have strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills to execute and manage effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy to both internal & external customers.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to all work flow & conditions as needed.
- Ability to work in a high volume, transaction driven environment.
- Must successfully complete OSHA 10 Hour Safety Training Certification
- Must successfully complete RSAC Reasonable Suspicion Training/Certificate
- Must be highly motivated, results-oriented individual with the ability to lead and manage others.
- Computer Literacy to include Microsoft Office Products: Office, Excel and ERP.
Metals USA offers a competitive starting salary $88,000 -- $90,000 a year and benefits plus upward mobility professional growth.
