Job Summary:
Operates one or more Laser or Plasma cutting machine(s) to produce metal parts and their components by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to
determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining
methods and sequences.
- Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work piece on machine.
- Loads control media such as tape, card, or disk, in machine controller or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database.
- Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
- Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of –tolerance machining.
- Operates machine manually to perform non-automated functions and when automatic
programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
- Operates a crane to load plate steel sheets onto the laser from pallets or bundles to be
processed on the lasers.
- Unloads processed parts from laser/plasma, separating the parts when necessary and then places the parts on pallets, or in tubs or racks by hand. Larger parts may require the use of a overhead crane.
- Removes scrap material from laser and places scrap material in scrap containers or neatly stacks in a holding area.
- Maintains an accurate count of parts produced on daily production sheet.
- Attaches identifying work order with each pallet, tub, or basket.
- Performs daily safety inspections and routine maintenance and cleaning as required.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
- Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and takes samples to
Quality Assurance for analysis as needed.
- May operate forklifts as specifically designated.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Basic four function math including fractions and decimals

Qualifications, Certifications, and Experience:
- High school education or equivalent preferred – can be offset by acceptable related experience
- Experience sufficient to have demonstrated proficiency in job requirements of Laser/Plasma Operator; prefer apprenticeship under the direction of experienced and competent CTL operating personnel
- Certified training pursuant to OSHA industrial truck (forklift) regulations
