Summary of Job:
The Water Meter Replacement Technician is responsible for the routine removal and installation of small-diameter residential water meters (typically 5/8" to 1"). This role focuses on modernizing utility infrastructure by replacing manual-read meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) or Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology. - Efficiency: Ability to complete a set quota of meter replacements per shift without compromising quality.
- Data Capture: Accurately record serial numbers, final readings of old meters, and initial readings of new meters using handheld tablets or mobile software.
- System Testing: Conduct onsite pressure and leak tests following installation to ensure the service is fully restored and functioning correctly.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and report plumbing issues at the meter box, such as leaking valves, corroded pipes, or obstructed access.
- Site Restoration: Ensure meter boxes are clean, lids are securely replaced, and the surrounding residential property is left in its original condition.
- Accuracy: Zero tolerance for data entry errors, as meter readings directly impact customer billing.
- Customer Service: Provide professional notification to residents before shutting off water and answer basic questions regarding the upgrade process.
- Professionalism: Maintaining a clean uniform and vehicle while serving as the "face" of the utility or contracting company.
Qualifications:
- Construction experience is preferred.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Proficiency with basic hand tools (pipe wrenches, channel locks, wire snips) and the ability to work with various pipe materials (copper, PVC, galvanized).
- Digital Literacy: Ability to operate GPS-enabled handheld devices and specialized Work Order Management Software.
- Plumbing Knowledge: Basic understanding of residential water service configurations and backflow prevention.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel and work overtime as required.

- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials (often up to 50 pounds or more)
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
