Territory Sales Representative – IL / IN / OH
We are looking for a high-performing Territory Sales Representative to help grow our business across Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. The ideal candidate is comfortable in manufacturing environments, confident in front of customers, and experienced working with both direct accounts and distribution partners.
Territory coverage:
- States: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio
- Travel: Regular in-person plant visits, 3–4 days/week on the road across a multi-state territory; must be willing to stay overnight as needed
- Customer types: Tier 1/Tier 2 automotive, metal stampers, tube benders, and general metal fabrication shops
Background and experience:
- 3–5 years in industrial B2B outside sales (fluids, chemicals, MRO, tooling, or similar)
- Extensive experience managing direct customer relationships while simultaneously supporting and growing business through distribution partners
- Proven track record of:
- In-person and over-the-phone cold calling
- Prospecting and territory development
- Growing existing accounts and expanding product mix
- Working with engineers, maintenance, purchasing, and production
Skills and behaviors:
- Strong technical aptitude: able to learn metalworking fluids, stamping lubricants, hydraulic oils, and clearly communicate value versus competitive products
- Consultative selling style: uses plant worksheets, asks process-focused questions, and positions themselves as the expert at the line or press
- Comfortable in plants: walking lines, reviewing parts, and engaging with operators and engineers
- Excellent relationship builder:
- Respects distributor relationships and does not bypass distributor customers without alignment
- Makes the distributor “look good” and becomes their first call for fluid-related questions
- Pipeline discipline:
- Uses CRM to track opportunities by plant, product line, and stage
- Comfortable reporting on monthly bookings, new account wins, and conversions from competitive fluids
Metrics and expectations:
- Manages a structured territory plan with:
- Target list of key accounts by region (IL/IN/OH)
- Clear activity metrics: plant visits per week, distributor joint calls, and quotes generated
