What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inspector position at Metalico Annaco?
The Scale Receiving Inspector is responsible for correctly and proficiently monitoring scrap volumes entering the facility. This position will be responsible for inspecting inbound scrap cars (i.e. matching VIN to the vehicle’s title, locating the catalytic convertor, identifying the type of wheels, etc.). This position is customer-focused, fast paced and requires a general knowledge of scrap metal grades. The physical environment requires this position to be outdoors. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
- Identify incoming and outgoing material (visual inspection).
- Inspects loads for non-conforming materials and communicates with operators and drivers to ensure safe unloading practices of material.
- Inspect inbound scrap cars (i.e. matching VIN to the vehicle’s title, locating the catalytic convertor, identifying the type of wheels, etc.).
- Upgrade items from within the sheet pile into higher value commodities.
- Monitor yard activity.
- Operate a tablet to document incoming material.
- Communicate with employees in the yard over incoming/outgoing material and customers.
- Answer supervisor/customer question through email.
- Ensure a timely shipment of products for customers is consistently achieved.
- Ensure Quality, Safety and Environmental Standards are met and achieved for production, customers and employees.
- Performs other tasks as assigned or requested.
- Must wear all required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, leather gloves, hi-vis vest, steel toed boots.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- Industry experience in scrap, metal preferred.
- Prior experience with hand tools, preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work outside.
- Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
- Customer service experience.
- Positive attitude, polite.
- Physical Demands: Lifting scrap material, standing for periods of time, etc.
- General knowledge of using an ERP system is preferred.
- Have proficient computer skills that include the use of software systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
- Work well under pressure.
Work Hours
This is a day shift position, typical hours are 7:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; overtime and Saturdays as scheduled. Schedule is subject to change to facilitate business and production needs.
