What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aluminum Welder position at Metal Shark?
Best-known for the vessel fleets it produces for the U.S. Armed Forces and allies around the globe, Metal Shark has expanded its focus to include state, local, and commercial operators across a wide range of markets. Today, the Louisiana-based company produces a wider range of specialty vessels than perhaps any comparable yard. Key markets served include fire rescue, law enforcement, military, passenger vessels, pilot boats, various workboat operators, recreational, and other specialty operators.
Job Title: Aluminum Welder
Reports to: Supervisor
Location: Jeanerette
Status: Hourly
Hours: Full Time, 6:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. M-F
Potential for overtime on Weekdays and Weekends
Education or Required Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the ship/boat building industry welding aluminum
- Must be able to read blue prints
- Must be able to tack, distribute heat evenly with a clean bead
- Must be able to pass the MSB Pre-Employment Mock Weld Test
Required Skills:
- Possess strong attention to detail in order to aid Metal Shark’s strong quality assurance program
- Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately
- Must be able to either fit or weld aluminum proficiently
- Ability to fix a defected weld
- Must be able to weld in any position (uphill, downhill, horizontal, pipe or flat)
- Ability to operate power equipment safely and comply with all safety standards
- Demonstrates strong work ethic
- Must be able to operate power tools (grinders, saws, drills, etc.)
- Good communication skills
- Works well with others
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders to complete tasks.
