What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drafter and CNC Laser Programmer position at Metal Goods Manufacturing Company, Inc.?
Position Overview. This combined role is integral to our manufacturing operations, spanning two key disciplines: SolidWorks-based drafting and Trumpf CNC laser table programming. You will create detailed drawings and technical documents, develop and optimize laser nesting programs, and serve as a primary contributor to new part creation and parts table management within our ERP system. You will work closely with engineering, fabrication, and management teams to move designs from concept to production-ready components.
Responsibilities
Drafting & Design
- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings using SolidWorks.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop design concepts and translate them into 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
- Ensure all drawings adhere to company standards and industry regulations.
- Manage document and revision control processes to maintain accurate records in accordance with our quality program.
- Assist in the creation of sales drawings and technical marketing materials.
- Support project and new part estimating and conduct pricing studies as needed.
Trumpf Laser Table Programming & Nesting
- Develop and input CNC laser cutting programs for the Trumpf laser table based on detailed blueprints and specifications.
- Build and manage nests in TruTops Boost (or equivalent nesting software) based on internal and external orders and demand, maximizing material utilization.
- Adjust machine parameters as needed for optimal performance and precision.
- Collaborate with fabrication teams on assembly, tooling, and process improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of production runs and machine settings.
ERP — Parts Creation & Parts Table Management
- Create new parts in the ERP system, including entering all required part attributes, descriptions, units of measure, and sourcing information.
- Make edits and updates to the parts table as designs change, new revisions are released, or production requirements evolve.
- Ensure part records in the ERP are consistent with current SolidWorks drawings and revision levels.
- Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and production teams to verify part data accuracy prior to release.
- Support document and revision control by keeping ERP part records aligned with the quality program.
