What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Superintendent position at Metal America?
General Superintendent
ABOUT METAL AMERICA
We sell, finance, manufacture, and install metal buildings, barndominiums, and concrete foundations nationwide.
We are growing fast. We are opening our own manufacturing plant, expanding across the country, and have already built a nationwide network of crews and subcontractors.
THE ROLE
I am the CEO. I am chaotic, move extremely fast, have massive vision, and constantly push us into new things. I need someone I can completely trust to own the quality of our work and the people actually building it.
I want us to have the best crews on earth, treat them so well they want to work with us for the rest of their lives, and make sure every job gets done right. We want to provide the best damn customer experience in construction. That starts with the people actually doing the work.
This is not a job where you sit back and manage superintendents from a desk.
We need a doer.
You will personally find crews, call them, meet them, vet them, train them, inspect their work, build relationships with them, and fix problems when stuff goes wrong.
When we have a nightmare job and need our best construction person there, you are getting on the plane.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Find and recruit incredible crews and subcontractors nationwide
- Vet, train, approve, and certify them
- Build relationships with the best crews and keep them with us for years
- Build clear standards for how every job should be done
- Personally inspect jobs and know who is actually good
- Track quality, inspections, rework, warranty claims, and problems by crew
- Give great crews more work
- Retrain weak crews and remove bad ones
- Build enough primary and backup crews everywhere we grow
- Travel to jobsites and personally solve hard construction problems
- Make sure quality gets better as we grow, not worse
WHAT YOU BRING
- You must speak English and Spanish fluently
- Deep, real construction experience
- You have led superintendents, crews, and subcontractors before
- You can walk onto a jobsite and immediately know what is right and what is wrong.
- Crews respect you because you actually know your stuff
- You know how to build relationships with tradespeople
- Extremely high standards
- You move fast and figure things out
- You are highly organized and good with software
- You can manage a national operation remotely from a computer
- You are willing to travel heavily and be in the field constantly when needed
- You are a builder and a doer, not just a manager
REMOTE HEAVY TRAVEL
This role is remote. A lot of the job happens from your computer. A lot of it also happens in airports, trucks, plants, and jobsites across the country. You need to be great at both
HIGH OWNERSHIP EQUITY
This is not middle management. You will have massive ownership over the crews, subcontractors, and quality behind Metal America nationwide
