Role Description
This is a full-time on-site People Operations Manager role located in Phoenix, AZ. The People Operations Manager will oversee talent acquisition, employee relations, and performance management to foster a positive work culture. Responsibilities include managing HR policies, developing and implementing employee engagement initiatives, facilitating training programs, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. Additional tasks will involve conflict resolution, promoting diversity and inclusion, and optimizing processes to improve organizational efficiency.
Core Responsibilities
Payroll & Compliance
- Own payroll processing and oversight through ADP
- Ensure accurate classification, overtime compliance, and tax filings
- Manage workers compensation program
- Oversee ACA compliance and reporting
- Handle unemployment claims and documentation
- Maintain up to date employee handbook and policies
- Ensure multi location compliance standards are consistent
Benefits Management
- Lead annual benefits renewal process
- Evaluate and shop healthcare brokers as needed
- Analyze plan performance and cost optimization
- Support employees with benefits questions and enrollment
Employee Lifecycle Management
- Standardize onboarding across all locations
- Create and maintain documentation protocols
- Review termination documentation before separation
- Coach managers on performance management and write ups
- Ensure consistency in PTO tracking and policy enforcement
Manager Support & Systems
- Implement structured performance review cadence
- Train managers on basic employment law and documentation
- Improve internal processes around hiring and employee communication
- Identify risk areas and proactively resolve them
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5 years experience in HR or People Operations
- Experience in a 40β150 employee company
- Multi location retail or operational environment preferred
- Strong working knowledge of payroll systems such as ADP
- Experience managing benefits and healthcare renewals
- Comfortable advising managers and senior leadership
- Practical, direct, and solution oriented
- Able to operate in a fast moving, founder led environment
