What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Generalist position at META PCs?
About META PCs
META PCs is one of the fastest-growing custom PC builders in the country — a founder-led company running retail, warehouse, and business operations across multiple Phoenix-area locations plus a national e-commerce presence. We move fast, we communicate directly, and we care more about getting things done well than about process for its own sake. We're scaling, and we're building the people function to
match.
The Role
We're hiring an HR Generalist to own people operations end to end. You'll be the company's primary HR resource and a direct partner to leadership — handling compliance, payroll, and benefits while also managing the human side: hiring and firing, performance reviews, and the interpersonal and cross-department issues that come with a growing team. This is a high-autonomy, high-trust role for someone who's done this in a growing company and knows the difference between running HR well and over-engineering it.
Position Overview
- Title: HR Generalist
- Location: META PCs HQ — Phoenix, AZ (onsite, required)
- Type: Full-time, exempt
- Reports to: COO / Executive Leadership
- Compensation: $55,000–$75,000 annually, based on experience
What You'll Own:
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain I-9 records and ensure compliance across all locations
- Keep the employee handbook, policies, and required labor law postings current at every location
- Support compliance with Arizona and federal employment requirements, and flag real legal exposure to leadership early
- Maintain accurate records and HRIS data integrity
Payroll & Benefits
- Process payroll accurately
- Administer benefits enrollment, answer employee questions, and support the renewal process
- Handle unemployment claims, workers' comp documentation, and required filings (in coordination with ADP)
- Maintain PTO records and enforce time-off policies consistently
Hiring & Lifecycle
- Own recruiting, screening, interview coordination, and offers
- Run onboarding and offboarding end to end
- Prepare written warnings, PIPs, and disciplinary and termination documentation
- Administer the point-based time and attendance system consistently and fairly
People Management & Employee Relations
- Help managers navigate interpersonal and cross-department friction
- Support and help run performance reviews
- Coach managers on documentation, expectations, and difficult conversations
- Handle employee questions and concerns professionally and neutrally, and escalate matters with real legal exposure to leadership and outside counsel
Schedule
META PCs operates in a retail-adjacent environment. This is not a standard Monday–Friday, 9–5 corporate role. Be prepared for:
- Availability during peak retail periods, including the holiday season, Black Friday, and back-to-school
- Blackout periods around major retail holidays — time-off requests during these windows generally won't be approved
- Occasional weekend availability when an HR issue needs same-day attention
- A fast-moving environment where decisions are made quickly and you're expected to keep pace
Who Thrives Here
- Has done generalist HR at a small-to-mid-size or growing company (not coming straight off a large corporate ladder)
- Enforces policy consistently: the same answer, every time, for every person
- Exercises judgment about what's worth escalating: raises the things that carry real risk, executes cleanly on the rest
- Handles interpersonal conflict and tough conversations calmly and professionally
- Brings ideas without needing to win every argument
Qualifications:
- 4–7 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a growing or multi-location company
- Experience owning hiring, terminations, performance management, and employee relations
- Rippling, ADP, or comparable HRIS and payroll experience strongly preferred; payroll processing experience required
- Working knowledge of Arizona employment law and federal compliance requirements
- Comfortable operating independently as a department of one
- Strong documentation habits and attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree in HR, business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
Salary : $55,000 - $75,000
