GL Accountant / Credit and Collections

Position Summary:

The GL Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
• Reviews monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements for accuracy and completeness.
• Maintains the general ledger and initiates regular journal entries as necessary.
• Sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and assists with closing the monthly books.
• Records daily cash receipts postings and manages customer accounts.
• Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
• Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
• Maintains fixed asset ledger and accumulated depreciation records.
• Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.

Credit and Collections:

• Reviews and approves new customer credit applications and sets credit limits.
• Monitors aging reports to identify delinquent and highrisk accounts.
• Contacts clients via phone or email regarding overdue payments.
• Resolves billing disputes, discrepancies, and customer credit issues.
• Processes customer payments, post cash receipts, and manages credit holds.

Education, Experience, Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
• At least three years of related experience required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Sheets or similar software, and accounting software.
