Position Description

Position Summary
The Department of Nursing in the School of Science, Engineering and Health at Messiah University invites applications for a full-time/term-tenure track or clinical track Nursing faculty position.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include teaching in the classroom and clinical nursing settings. Course responsibilities may include Pediatrics, Critical Care, Nursing Research, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and other nursing courses of interest and expertise. Doctorally prepared candidates (PhD or DNP) may have the opportunity to teach graduate-level courses. Faculty will have advising and institutional service responsibilities and continue their own scholarship and practice.

Qualifications
Minimum of Master of Science degree in nursing with appropriate clinical practice certifications; doctoral degree in nursing highly preferred (PhD or DNP) or current enrollment in doctoral study. Graduate preparation in nursing education and certification in nursing education (CNE) are highly preferred. If not doctorally prepared, must commit to a plan to begin doctoral education within five years of hire. Previous didactic and clinical teaching experience preferred. Clinical experience in pediatric nursing is required. Candidate should be committed to excellence in teaching in a Christian liberal arts setting and to ongoing scholarship, service, and practice in nursing. Must have a current, valid professional nursing license in the state of Pennsylvania, or willing to obtain upon hire.

Messiah University’s Department of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including:

  • MSN – Nurse Educator
  • MSN – Nursing Administration
  • MSN/MBA – Nursing Administration dual degree
  • DNP – Family Nurse Practitioner (post BSN), Nursing Leadership (post-master’s), Nurse Educator
  • Post Graduate Certificate – Family Nurse Practitioner
The program enjoys a reputation for high-quality classroom and clinical instruction, producing well-prepared graduates who are preferred for hire in local and regional healthcare institutions. The program boasts unique opportunities for study abroad and cross-cultural learning. The BSN and DNP/FNP programs have maintained a 100% FNP board pass rate and a 99.4% five-year average for first-time NCLEX pass rate. Our nursing programs have received multiple top-ranked designations such as being the #1 RN program in Pennsylvania (Registerednursing.org), #1 RN NCLEX rank in USA (Mountain Measurement Report, 2024), Nursing College of Distinction (BSN, 2024-2025), #5 Best Nursing Educator program (Registerednursing.org, 2024), and #5 Best Online Doctorate in Nursing Program (ForbesAdvisor, 2024). Messiah University’s baccalaureate, master’s, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).

The Department
A majority of full-time faculty are doctorally prepared and supported by skilled staff. Faculty are committed to the integration of Christian faith in the practice of the nursing profession. Simulation laboratories include advanced simulation with medium and high-fidelity human simulators integrated into all undergraduate clinical nursing courses.
