Church Music Coordinator

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Music Coordinator is responsible for the music ministry of MLC under the supervision of the senior pastor. He or she works with the pastor (or those designated by the pastor) to choose songs, prepare musicians and singers, recruit volunteers, and invest in the life of the church community. He or she aims not only to train the flock musically, but to make disciples who sing the new song of the gospel. 

• Weekly work hours: 15 (part-time) 
• Compensation: $25/hr.
• Annual PTO: 45 hours.
• Benefits: Insurance, at cost, if approved by the Vestry
• Core hours: Sunday 7:45 - 10:45am
• Reports to: Pastor

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Pray daily for flock, pastor, staff – and for the coming of the Kingdom of God in power as we gather for worship on the Lord's Day.
2. Show the love and joy of Christ in all interactions with flock, musicians, pastor, and staff. 
3. Plan musical worship with the Pastor, ensuring alignment with the church’s confession, culture, and mission (as summed up in "MLC's Liturgical Theology") 
4. Recruit, shepherd, coordinate, and train musicians to ensure faithful preparation and joyful, reverential execution of musical worship “in Spirit and in truth.” 
5. Oversee the Church Musician.
6. Oversee and/or direct the choir, empowering them to lead the flock in congregational singing and to serve the flock through special songs. 
7. Oversee sound ministry (including sermon audio recordings).
8. Additional tasks as assigned by the Pastor.
9. Possesses a strong sense of integrity and a commitment to handling and maintaining confidential and sensitive information in all manners related to the church and its members.
10. Successful completion of a background check.
11. Successful completion of a sexual abuse awareness training course.

1. Living faith in Christ marked by confidence in the promise and power of the gospel.
2. Reverent and curious trust in the Bible as the written Word of God.
3. Profound commitment to orthodox* Christianity.
4. Deep respect for the faith of children and their proprietorship of the Kingdom.
5. Bias for creativity, adventure, and action.
6. Strategic thinking in relation to the intersection of theology, culture, music, pedagogy, and pastoral ministry. 
7. Demonstrated proficiency in leading musical worship and planning music programs within a church setting.
8. Strong musical skills, including proficiency in vocal and instrumental performance (esp. piano & guitar). 
9. A bachelor’s degree in fields related to music and/or ministry is preferred, or equivalent work / professional experience.

*By “orthodox” we mean the Apostles’ & Nicene Creeds, the Small Catechism, and the Augsburg Confession. Also: 1) the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as Savior from sin, death, and the devil; 2) the sanctity of human life, however small (zygote), poor, broken, or old; 3) the conviction that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one ma n and one woman.
